Scottie Basketball Teams Pick Up First Wins

Girls Beat Joliet 46-33

The Scottie girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season – defeating Joliet by double digits, 46-33 – after dropping a tight game to Red Lodge, 42-21, at the Wooden Memorial Tournament this past weekend.

Glasgow took a first half lead over host team Red Lodge Friday evening, going into the break with a 27-20 lead, building from their 14-13 first quarter lead.

Red Lodge came out strong from the half, putting up 11 points in the both the final quarters while holding Glasgow to 6 points in the third and 8 in the fourth. The Rams claimed the one-point victory.

Tyann Graham led the Scotties in scoring with 17 points. The senior co-captain went 10-for-12 at the charity stripe. Co-captain Abrianna Nielsen and Carly Nelson each contributed 7 points while Daley Aune scored 6 points. Co-captain Blaire Westby and Brielle Partridge added 2 points each.

Glasgow had only 11 fouls in the game, four in the first half. Graham fouled out of the game. Nielsen and Aune were called for two fouls each. Westby, Nelson and Aspen Stulc had one a piece.

Red Lodge racked up 19 fouls, sending Glasgow to the free throw line 18 times, where the Scotties had a 72 percent success rate.

Saturday evening, the Scotties faced the Steelmen of Joliet. Glasgow took control of the game in the first quarter with a 13-5 lead, and never gave it up. At the half, the Scotties led by 6 points, 23-17.

Joliet narrowed the lead to 3 points at the end of the third, 30-27, before Glasgow exploded in the final quarter. Glasgow put up 16 points in the final 8 minutes while holding Joliet to 3 for a 46-33 victory.

The Scotties had three players hit double digits in scoring. Aune led her team with 15 points and Nelson added 13. Nielsen put in 10 points, including two treys. Graham rounded out the scoring with 8 points, going 2-for-2 at the line.

Glasgow had 11 fouls in the game, five in the first half. They sent Joliet to the free throw line 12 times where the Steelmen had a 42 percent success rate. Glasgow connected on 4 of 6 at the charity stripe, for a 66 percent success rate.

Westby and Graham were called for three fouls each. Nielsen, Aune and Nelson were called for two a piece.

In JV action, the Scottie girls attended the Wolf Point Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend where they took Frazer and Nashua. On Friday, the Scotties fell to the Bearcubs 31-22. Saturday, the Scotties dropped their game to the Porcupines by a score of 41-12.

The Scotties are home this week with games against Glendive and Sidney on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 16-17.

Glasgow hosts Glendive Thursday with a C-squad game at 5 p.m. at the Evangelical Church and JV action at 3:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The varsity will play at 6:30 p.m., also in the high school gymnasium.

Friday the Sidney Eagles will be in town with all games in the high school gym. C-squad plays at noon, JV at 3 p.m and the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Games in the GHS gym will be carried on the NFHS network and varsity games will be on KLTZ radio.

On Wednesday, Dec. 22, the Scotties host the Malta M-ettes for Glasgow's Color Rush night. Games will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the GHS gymnasium.
