Class C Basketball Showcase

For two straight days, the Glasgow High School Gymnasium was the site of non-stop Class C basketball action. Frazer, Lustre Christian, Nashua and North Country, representing Valley County, sent their girls' and boys' teams to the hardwood against teams from the region.

After two days and two games for each team, the Lustre Christian boys and North Country girls walked away with 2-0 records to start the season. The Nashua girls went 1-1. Both Frazer teams, the Nashua boys, the Lustre Christian girls and North Country boys went 0-2 in the opening weekend.

Friday

Game One

Nashua v. Malta

Girls

In the first game of the showcase, the Nashua girls took on the Malta JV team.The Porcupines fell 53-33 to the M-ettes. Kaitlynn Miller led the Porcupines with 14 points, followed by Tia Dees with 12. Alyssa Murdoch and Alexis Murdoch each scored three points and Deja Morgan scored one. Nashua played a clean game with only seven total fouls; Miller, four; Dees, two and Alexis Murdoch 1.

Game Two

Nashua v. Malta

Boys

The Nashua boys dropped their first game 52-40. Junior Kevan Viste led the Porcupines in points with 26. Xander Pugh added 7, Damon Adkins 5 and Caden Laumeyer 2. Nashua had 17 fouls in the game with Ethan Noser fouling out. C. Laumeyer had four fouls, Pugh three, Walker Laumeyer three and Adkins and Viste had one each.

Game Three

Lustre v. Turner

Girls

The young Lustre girls team dropped their first game to Turner by a margin of 41-33. Alexa Reddig led her team with 22 points. Grace Brown added 7 and Aubri Holzrichter scored 4 points. The Lions had only 12 fouls in the game, split evenly in the halves. Brown fouled out while Reddig and Holzrichter had three each. Hannah Brown was called for one.

Game Four

Lustre v. Turner

Boys

The Lustre boys handily won their first game over Turner by a score of 78-33 with balanced scoring. Kolden Hoversland led the Lions with 18 points, followed by Jasiah Hambira with 14 and Elijah Lenihan with 13. Braden Ewing had 10 points, Cayden Klatt 9, Clay Reddig 6, Bryan Chen and Gabe Alves 3 each, and Alex Chen 2. The Lions had 13 fouls 10 in the first half. Kaleb Hoversland, Reddig, and Hambira had three each. Kolden Hoversland was called for two and Klatt and B. Chen had one each.

Game Five

Frazer v. Terry

Girls

The Frazer girls, suiting up only five players, lost their game to Terry 49-29. Baily Beston led the Bearcubs with 12 points. Isabelle Even and Liana Jackson had 6 each. Adrianna IronCloud scored 3 points and Evelynn YellowHammer had 2. The Bearcubs had 16 fouls. Even, Jackson and Beston had four fouls each. YellowHammer had three and IronCloud had one.

Game Six

Frazer v. Terry

Boys

The Bearcub boys fell to Terry 81-53 after slow first and third quarters. Keein Ackerman led Frazer with 28 points, including 5-of-6 at the line. John Hotomanie had 10 points and Joseph Beston had 5. Ty Fourstar and Blue Fettig had 4 each while Jonathan Jackson added 2. Frazer had only 9 fouls in the game, evenly spread out. Beston, Fettig and Hotomanie had two each. Fourstar, Jackson and Ackerman were called for one each.

Game Seven

North Country

v. Plentywood

Girls

The North Country girls team defeated Plentywood 41-36 with play equally strong in the inside and outside games. Paige Wasson led the Mavericks with 18 points. Teagan Erickson scored 11, including three treys. Jaycee Erickson added 8 and Kora LaBrie scored 4 points. The Mavs had nine fouls in the game, three in the first half. J. Erickson had four fouls. T. Erickson and Wasson had two each and Labrie had one.

Game Eight

North Country

v. Plentywood

Boys

The North Country boys fell to to Plentywood in their first game of the season, 61-38. Trey Johnson led the Mavs with 20 points, including four three-pointers. Aiden Albus scored 8 points and Coy Bowman and Kade Strommen added 5 each. North Country had 14 fouls in the game, 10 of which came in the first half. Blaine Downing was called for four fouls, Johnson and Albus three each, Strommen two and Andrew Boucher one.

Saturday

Game One

Turner v. Frazer

Girls

The Bearcubs fell to the Tornadoes 56-40. B. Beston led her team with 27 points. L. Jackson added 9 and Even had 4 points. The Bearcubs ran into foul trouble, racking up 16 fouls in the game, 10 in the second half. Even and L. Jackson fouled out, leaving only three players in last few moments of the game. Beston was called for four and YellowHammer for two fouls.

Game Two

Turner v. Frazer

Boys

Despite a 22-point fourth quarter, the Frazer boys fell to Turner 51-46. Ackerman again led his team, scoring 22 points. Hotomanie added 13, including two treys by the center. Fourstar had 5 points and Fettig and Jackson added 3 each. Frazer had 13 fouls in the match-up, with nine in the second half. Hotomanie and Ackerman had three each while Fourstar, Fettig and Jackson had two a piece.

Game Three

Terry v. Nashua

Girls

The Porcupine girls defeated the Tornadoes 44-32 on the strength of their inside game. Dees scored 21 points for Nashua and Miller added 13. Morgan scored 8 and Alexis Murdoch added 2 points. Nashua had 12 fouls, split evenly between the halves. Dees had four, Miller three, Alyssa Murdock and Alexis Murdoch two and Morgan one.

Game Four

Terry v. Nashua

Boys

The Porcupine boys struggled against Terry, falling 63-18. Viste scored 9 in leading Nashua, followed by C. Laumeyer with 4, Noser 3 and W. Laumeyer 2. Nashua had 11 fouls. Noser was called for four, Viste three, C. Laumeyer two and Pugh and W. Lauemeyer one each.

Game Five

Plentywood v. Lustre

Girls

The Lions fell to the Wildcats 71-36 while playing a clean game. Aubri Holzrichter scored 22 points in leading Lustre while Reddig added 8 and Brown 6 points. Brown had three fouls, and Reddig and Holzrichter had one each for a team total of five.

Game Six

Plentywood v. Lustre

Boys

In a tight game, Lustre overcame an early deficit to beat Plentywood 49-48. Lenihan scored 16 points and Klatt added 12 to lead the Lions over the Wildcats. Kolden Hoversland added 11, Hambira 7 and Ewing 3 points. Lustre had 14 fouls, split evenly over the halves. Ewing fouled out while Kolden Hoversland was called for four fouls, Lenihan three and Hambira two.

Game Seven

Richey/Lambert

v. North Country

Girls

The North Country girls handily defeated Richey/Lambert 58-17 in their second season victory. J. Erickson led the Mavs with 16 points. T. Erickson and Wasson had 8 each, LaBrie and Mattea McColly 6 a piece, Kendall Scheffelmear and Zandora Longtree 5 each and Shelbi LaBrie 4. North Country had only eight fouls, three in the second half. Scheffelmear and T. Erickson were called for two each while S. LaBrie, K. LaBire, McColly and Wasson were called for one a piece.

Game Eight

Richey/Lambert

v. North Country

Boys

The North Country boys fell in their match-up against Plentywood 70-35. Albus led the Mavs with 15 points. Johnson added 11 and Downing scored 9 points. The Mavs were called fr 14 fouls, 11 of which came in the first half. Albus and Johnson were called for four each. Strommen was called for three fouls while Downing, Marshall Caves and Boucher were called for one a piece.

Class C basketball action continues this weekend with Frazer, Lustre Christian and Nashua attending the Wolf Point Tip-Off Tournament and North Country traveling to the Lewistown Showcase.

Frazer takes on the Glasgow JV teams on Friday, Dec. 10, with girls action starting at 3 p.m., followed by boys at 4:30 p.m. The Bearcubs play the Wolf Point JV teams on Saturday, Dec. 11. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.

Lustre will play the Wolf Point JV teams on Friday, Dec. 10, with the girls' game at 6 p.m. and the boys' at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Lions play the Glasgow JV teams, with the girls playing at noon followed by the boys at 1:30 p.m.

Nashua will take on the Poplar JV teams on Friday, Dec. 10, with girls at noon followed by the boys at 1:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 11 with the girls playing at 3 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m.

The North Country boys play Fort Benton on Friday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m., followed by the girls at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, the boys play Winifred/Roy at 9 a.m., followed by the girls' game at 10:30 a.m.
