The Glasgow Ice Dawgs Pee Wee team went 1-and-3 in their opening road weekend in Billings. Billings took game one 5 to 3. Glasgow rebounded to win the second round 4 to 1, but dropped the final Saturday game 8 to 5. Billings won the sole Sunday game 7 to 0.
Billings took a 2-0 lead after one period of play in game one. They scored twice more in the second, but Glasgow got on the board on an Abigail Henry even strength goal, assisted by Ellery Dedobbeleer. Glasgow put up two goals in the third to Billings’ one. Carter Holte, assist Ian Anderson and Jack Miller, assists Tay Morehouse and Dedebbeleer, scored the even-strength goals for Glasgow.
Ice Dawgs’ goalie Mary Knierim faced 37 shots between the pipes, turning away five attempts for an 86.5 save percentage. Glasgow’s offense mustered 23 shots in the game.
Glasgow accrued 24 minutes of penalties on four infractions, while Billings had four minutes on two infractions.
In game two, Glasgow held the 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, on goals by Miller. Anderson assisted on the first and Henry earned the assist on the power play goal. The Dawgs put up one goal in each the second and third periods, while shutting down the Billings offense. Henry, assist Miller, scored the second-period goal and Miller notched the final goal of the game.
Ella Ross minded the net for Glasgow, turning away 28 of 29 shots on net for a 96.6 save percentage. Glasgow put 35 attempts on the Billings net.
The Ice Dawgs turned in a clean performance, avoiding any trips to the sin bin while Billings was called for five infractions, for 10 penalty minutes.
Game three saw an even start with each team putting up a goal in the first period. Anderson, assist Miller, scored for the Dawgs. The second period saw a flurry of goals with Glasgow netting three and Billings taking a one goal lead after scoring four times. Henry, assist Miller; Anderson, and Miller, assist Dedeobbeleer, all scored even strength Glasgow goals.
Billings outpaced Glasgow by two goals in the final period, outscoring the Dawgs 3-1 for the 8-5 win. Anderson found the back of the net for Glasgow in the final period.
Tay Morehouse put on the pads for Glasgow and turned away 30 of 38 shots on the Dawgs net for a 78.9 save percentage in 24 minutes of play. Ross faced no shots during her 21 minutes in net. Glasgow put 32 pucks on net.
Billings had four penalty minutes on two infractions while Glasgow was called for only one infraction, for two penalty minutes.
Sunday’s game proved to be all Billings, who put up three goals in the first, two in the second and two in the third, all while shutting out Glasgow.
Ross had a 69.6 save percentage after turning away 16 of 23 attempts. Glasgow outshot Billings, putting up 31 quality attempts but could not find the back of the net.
Both teams were sent to the penalty box three times for six minutes of penalties for each team.
"Had a couple close games. Kids played well given we only had six practices so far this season," said Landon Holte, head coach., of his 15-member squad. "Good stuff to build on in practices."
The Pee Wee Ice Dawgs’ next scheduled games are on Saturday, Dec. 11, when they host Williston for a pair of games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Valley Event Center.
