Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Nashua Cross Country

Nashua's Alyssa Murdock was the lone Porcupine at the State Cross Country Meet in Missoula Oct. 23. The determined senior finished in 64th place, out of over 100 runners, and set a personal record at the most important meet of the year. Murdock finished the course in 26:36.72. "I am pretty proud of beating my PR at the State Cross Country ..." she said.

Despite being the lone NHS runner at the state meet, the 2021 season marked the first time Murdock had teammates as Nashua boasted a junior high team this season. The addition of teammates was a welcome one for Murdock, who stepped into a leadership role for the younger Porcupines. "My first year was difficult cause I was scared of everything and I was shy so my shyness made it even worse!"

Murdock leaves her young teammates with words of encouragement as they continue their running careers. "My advice to them is to stay positive during the race, make sure you breathe and just have fun," she said. "Big things will happen to those who wait!"
