Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
On September 25, 2021, a group of 27 disc golfers from around the Montana and North Dakota region converged upon Fort Peck and the area's newest 18-hole disc golf course, The Fortress. The Hi-Line Hyzers Disc Golf Club out of Glasgow hosted the venue's second disc golf tournament of the year, and the first that was sanctioned by the governing body of disc golf, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). The day began bright and early in the morning, with a full 18 hole round of disc golf played on the Fortress's longer layout. This was followed by lunch at the venue, which was provided by the Vogel family of Fort Peck. The afternoon saw the second full 18 hole round, this time played on the course's shorter layout, which in some cases proved to be much harder than the longer layout. Overall, all players had a great experience, and many stated they cannot wait to get back out here for future tournaments.
In the Mixed Pro Open Division (MPO), Fort Peck's own Kevin Vogel (also Hi-Line Hyzers Disc Golf Club President) took the tournament victory, shooting a total of 14 strokes under par, winning by a margin of 9 strokes over Dickinson's Ely Brunmeier, who shot 5 under for the tournament. The win netted Vogel a trophy and a cash payout of $90, while Brunmeier took $50 for his second place finish.
Moving into the Amateur Divisions, Landon Bird out of Minot took home the Advanced Amateur win, shooting 18 under par for the tournament, a margin of 22 strokes over Glasgow's Zach Moser (Chair of the Board, Hi-Line Hyzers Disc Golf). In the Master's division, which is an age protected division for players over 40 years of age, Lloyd Smith from Glendive shot 7 under par to win the division over Williston's Oscar Vega, who shot 2 under. In the Intermediate Amateur Division, Glasgow's Cory Mottice beat Glendive's Austin Smith by 4 strokes, with Mottice shooting 2 over par and Smith shooting 6 over par. Moving to the Recreational Division, Kenric Gockenbach of Williston shot 2 over par, which was enough to beat Miles City's James Cooper by 5 strokes, as Cooper shot 7 over for the tournament. Finally, in the Women's Recreational Division, Miles City's Kimber Cooper took first in the division by shooting 17 over for the two rounds, while Glasgow's Olivia Allen took home second place with a score of 63 over par.
