Sunnyside Golf and Country Club held their annual club championship tournament in a slightly different format for the summer of 2021. Taking into account the kick off of school fall sports and the coronavirus, the tournament was spread out over two weeks, allowing golfers plenty of time to complete their rounds. Competitors also had the option this year to buy another round if their first was found lacking.
After two weeks, Jake Engstrom came out on top of the men’s competition and Shelly Hopfauf repeated as the women’s champion. The title comes with a parking space and bragging rights. Riley Smith topped the junior champion competition.
Engstrom was “untouchable” in the men’s title tilt, shooting a 152 gross score. Nate Hopstad claimed the number one net spot with a score of 132.634.
Hopfauf’s 178 put her out ahead of the other women in the tournament by nearly 10 strokes. Jenn Jackson earned the top net spot with her 145.88.
Riley Smith, standout Scottie golfer, shot a 170 to earn the Junior title, edging out fellow Scottie Eli Feezell, who claimed first place net with a 141.80.
