Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Nashua Porcupines volleyball team hosted their first match this past Friday, taking on the Culbertson Cowgirls in front of the Nashua crowd. On Saturday, they traveled to Daniels County for the Scobey Invitational. The Porcupines did not come out on top either night but used the matches as learning opportunities.
Nashua held tight with Culbertson in their first game, but the Cowgirls won 25-23. Culbertson built a larger lead in the second game and went on to win 25-15. Nashua challenged their opponents in game three, but the visitors still came out on top, 25-20.
Tia Dees and Hadynn Adkins led the Porcupines with three and two, respectively. Adkins also led the team in assists with two. She added five aces to Nashua's stats while Dees had four. Deja Morgan had four digs for the Porcupines and Dees and Alexis Murdock had three each. Dees and Kaitlyn Miller had a block each for the home team.
On Saturday in Scobey the Porcupines faced Plentywood, Wolf Point, Jordan, Richey-Lambert and Wibeaux in pool play. "It was great to see some different teams and try out a new rotation and different coverage on them," said head coach Janice Rorvik.
The Porcupines demonstrated strong serving, but were unable to advance out of pool play into the tournament. Rorvik had previously said, "We feel Plentywood is going to be the team to beat this year ..."
Despite the setbacks, Rorvik has high hopes and high praise for her team. ""I am looking forward to watching these girls continue to develop as as a team and improve their skills," she said. "It is enjoyable to coach this team. They have a great, positive attitude and their work ethic/determination has been wonderful."
Nashua hosts Fairview this Friday, Sept. 17 with action beginning at 5:30 p.m. The team is home again on Saturday, Sept. 18, hosting Richey-Lambert, with games also beginning at 5:30 p.m.
