Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

He personified the word "gentle" in gentleman.

Adventures in St. Marie

Ron was tall and lanky, and walked slowly but with meaning.

He spoke quietly to me and Lin as he began to sit down in his chair at Shady Rest RV Park.

He and Cary, his wife, like this RV park and came here every year and they would take their Motor Home into the parking spot that he and Cary liked to be in.

We liked visiting with them at Shady Rest as well as so many others who frequent the park.

Ron made friends through out the sites. A kind of good will ambassador of Rvers.

He would show up in the neighboring rv spots sort of unexpectedly and gently sit down in an available chair. Then his wonderful stories and jokes would come out and everyone would laugh with this peaceful gentle man!

He put the word gentle in the word gentleman.

We had just met his son, Russ Gilbertson, the other day at the wildfire just up Route-24 about four miles from here. We wrote about it in our article on August 4.

Russ was the person who unselfishly delivered water to the Long Run fire department to put out that blaze.

We talked with Russ and mentioned his dad, Ron and mom, Cary Gilbertson.

We were absolutely shocked when we received the phone call late at night from our daughter, Cody Pederson.

Ron Gilbertson had passed away very unexpectedly. He died suddenly the other day.

It is still hard to believe it.

A tall tree stands on a mountaintop, and every day you have seen it there, and one day you look and the tree is gone, and there is an empty place in the sky.

There will always be an empty place.

Rest in peace, Ron. You now belong to the ages.

On another note, Long time resident Lee Tracy and his wife will be departing Glasgow in about a month and going down to Billings.

Lee told me a few minutes ago that he joined the Air Force to see the world and ended up his entire time at Glasgow Air Force Base in St. Marie.

Lee was working at J.R.s Liquor on and off for 23 years!

Chief Aho

Closer to St. Marie while the residents waited for word of a possible new fire chief for about two weeks.

It appears that August Aho will continue on as Chief of this little town of approximately 470-residents. according to the 2021 Census.

The next fire training date will be at 6:30 p.m. on August 20 and on September 3.

If you are considering joining the volunteer fire department, this is a good time to check it out at the Fire Station!

There also will be, tentatively, a pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on August 21 at the Fire Hall for the St. Marie CO-OP.

Come join the fun!

For those who went to Dr. Dan Swanson, Urologist, he will no longer be coming to Glasgow.
