Glasgow Reds Split Week

Stand at 10-10 on the Season

The Glasgow Reds team split their games, going 3-3, over the past week. Their overall record now stands split also, 10-10.

The Reds' first pair of games was on Wednesday in Laurel where they dropped both games.The Dodgers won 7-5 and 11-8. Glasgow then traveled to Glendive for two games on Thursday, both of which went into the Reds' win column. The Reds beat the Glendive B team 5-0 and 5-2. At home on Saturday, Glasgow won the first of a doubleheader, 23-1, and dropped game two, 7-5, against the Wolf Point YellowJackets.

Glasgow scored first in game one against Laurel, after both teams went 3-up, 3-down in the first inning. In the top of the second, Calvin Bengochea put the Reds on the scoreboard after Jack Sprague hit a line drive to center field. Glasgow prevented Laurel from scoring the bottom of the inning, before the Dodgers did the same to Reds in the top of third. Laurel scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, 2-1 going into the fourth.

Three runners crossed the plate Glasgow in the top of the fourth. Riley Smith scored when JT Sprague was walked, forcing all runners to advance. Rance Rhoads scored on a Jeramiah Benson single line drive to left field and Bengochea scored on a Tel Aune sacrifice fly to right field. The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring twice and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, sending three runners home.

The Reds lit up the scoreboard once more in the game when Juliun Benson hit an inside-the-park home run on line drive to first base. The last-inning score was not enough to retake the lead and the Reds fell to the Dodgers, 7-5.

Rhoads took the loss for Glasgow, allowing six runs on six hits while throwing a 60.5 strike percentage. Smith relieved him the sixth inning for 11 pitches, allowing one run and no hits. JT Sprague was credited two RBIs while Aune, Juliun Benson and Jeramiah Benson had one each. Bengochea went 2-for-3 at bat and Rhoads was 1-for-2.

Game two was a higher-scoring affair, but the Reds still came out on the losing end despite a strong start. Glasgow was up 4-2 at the end of the first, but Laurel shut them out until the top of the sixth while running up their own scoring.

Juliun Benson batted Aune and Tatum Hansen home on a ground ball to right field. Juliun Benson and Smith crossed home on a Rhoads ground ball also to right field. The Dodgers put up five runs in the bottom of the second, one in the third and another in the fifth to take a decisive 9-4 lead before Glasgow scored again.

Jeramiah Benson scored on an Aune single to center field, ending Glasgow's scoring drought. The Dodgers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take an 11-5 lead into the final inning.

Glasgow put up three runs, not enough to to take the lead or the win. Mason Hunter batted in Juliun Benson and Smith on a ground ball hit. Rhoads scored on a Jack Kolstad ground ball.

Juliun Benson and Hansen both went 3-for-5 at bat for the Reds, as they outhit the Dodgers 10-6. Aune went 3-for-5 at bat. Juliun Benson, Rhoads and Hunter all had two RBIs for Glasgow. Bengochea took the loss for the Reds on the mound. He started the game and allowed two runs on one hit. He was relieved by Aune who gave up six runs on four hits. Sprague allowed no hits or runs during his time as pitcher. Hansen allowed three runs on one hit in his tenure. Jeramiah Benson finished out the game for Glasgow, allowing no hits or runs.

From Laurel, the Reds traveled to Glendive and a more successful doubleheader. Aiden Price pitched Glasgow to a shut-out victory over five innings. Kolstad took advantage of a wild pitch to put Glasgow on the scoreboard in the first inning. Glasgow's fielding kept Glendive B off the scoreboard, including a rare triple play in the bottom of the third. Aune caught the fly ball and sent it to Bengochea at second, who passed the ball to Siefert at third base in time to make the third out.

Glasgow sent four runners around the bases in the top of the fourth. Walker Laumeyer batted in Bengochea and Aune on a double fly ball to right field. Kolsad rounded the plate on a Siefert single ground ball to shortstop and Laumeyer was batter in by Price on a line drive to third base.

Price threw a 52.7 strike percentage with five strike outs. Laumeyer went 2-for-2 at bat with two RBIs. Aune went 2-for-3 at bat. Siefert and Price both added RBIs for Glasgow.

In game two, Glasgow held a 4-2 lead at the end of the second inning. Both teams scored once in the third as the Reds went on to win 5-2. Hunter was the winning pitcher for Glasgow, going all five innings for the Reds.

He also started Glasgow's scoring, hitting a hard ground ball to bat in Price and Jeramiah Benson. Hansen scored on a Jordan Plummer single line drive and Hunter crossed home on a Kolstad ground out. Jeramiah Benson scored his second run, and Glasgow's fifth, on a Hansen single fly ball to center in the third.

Hansen went 2-for-2 at bat to lead the Reds at Bat. He also had one RBI along with Plummer, 1; Kolsad, 1, and Hunter, 2. Hunter had eight strikeouts on the mound while throwing an 80.0 strike percentage and allowing five hits.

After a day off from games, the Reds hit Bob Connors field on Saturday, hosting the Wolf Point. The Reds stomped the YellowJackets in game one before losing a closer game two. After allowing Wolf Point to put a single run on the board, Glasgow shut out their guests and proceeded to send Red after Red home.

Glasgow answered back loudly in the first inning, scoring four times to take the lead. Aune scored first for Glasgow, crossing the plate on a Rhoads single line drive. Rhoads himself scored when Jeramiah Benson was walked. Sprague scored when Laumeyer was also walked by the YellowJackets pitcher. Bengochea scored after tagging up on a Plummer fly out.

The Reds' scoring continued in the second when Aune scored on a passed ball with Sprague at bat. Hansen was close behind him, crossing home on a Sprague single to shortstop. Jeramiah Benson hit a ground ball and reached on an error while sending Rhoads and Sprague home.

Glasgow opened up the scoring floodgate in the third inning, scoring 15 times. Plummer was first over the plate in the inning, crossing on an Aune sacrifice fly to center. Kolstad scored on a Hansen fly ball and Hansen scored on the next batter when Rhoads notched a double grounder. Jeramiah Bensen sent Rhoads and Sprague home on a single ground ball to center. Bengochea rounded home on a Laumeyer fly ball.

The scoring onslaught continued when Plummer's double fly ball to center sent Jeramiah Benson home. Pummer was batted in by Aune. Rhoads notched the grand slam, lighting up the scoreboard and the crowd. He hit an inside-the-park line drive to center field and snding Kolstad, Aune and Mark Eliason home. Jeramiah Benson sent Bengochea home on a triple fly ball before scoring himself on a Laumeyer single to shortstop.

The game ended after the top of the fifth when Wolf Point went three-up, three-down on a ground out and two strikeouts for Reds pitcher Smith. Smith, who went all five innings for Glasgow, allowed only one run on two hits in the game. He threw a 69.1 strike percentage and threw eight strikeouts.

Rhoads went 3-for-4 at bat with six RBIs. Jeramiah Benson had four RBIs while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Aune, Laumeyer and Plummer had two RBIs a piece. Aune, Hansen and Plummer each had two stolen bases while Kolstad had one.

Wolf Point had the chance for revenge, and took it, in game two of the doubleheader. They held a 3-2 lead after the first inning before Glasgow tied it after two. Wolf Point scored the final two runs of the game in the top of the third. Both teams registered goose eggs for the remainder of the game.

The Reds ended the top of the first for Wolf Point with a double play with Bengochea getting the ball to catcher Aune for an out at home before Rhoads got the batter out at first. Hansen scored Glasgow's first run on a balk by the YellowJackets pitcher. Rhoads crossed home when Wolf Point waked Jeramiah Benson and advanced the runners.

Glasgow scored three runs in the bottom of the second to even up the scoreboard at 5 a piece. Kolstad completed his trip around the bases on a Hansen single to shortstop. Hansen scored himself on an error by the YellowJackets catcher and Rhoads took advantage of a wild pitch to Smith to cross the plate. But Wolf Point's two runs in the third sealed the win for the visiting team.

Bengochea started the game for Glasgow, allowing five runs on one hit but it was Eliason who took the loss for Glasgow. The relief pitcher allowed two runs on five hits over three innings while striking out six and throwing a 56.3 strike percentage. Hansen threw for one inning with a 40.7 strike percentage and Sprague pitched a 63.0 strike percentage over two innings.

Hansen went 2-for-3 at bat with one RBI. Jeramiah Benson also had one RBI while going 1-for-3 at the plate. Aune and Hansen led the Reds in stolen bases with two a piece. Jeramiah Benson, Kolstad, Plummer, Rhoads and Smith had one stolen base each.

The Reds will travel to Miles City on Tuesday, June 22, for a doubleheader against the Mavericks with games at 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday Glasgow hosts the Billings Blue Jays for a doubleheader at Sullivan Park with game times at 3 and 5 p.m.

The team will then travel to Billings for a pair of doubleheaders. Monday, June 28, the Reds face the Blue Jays on their home field with games at 5 and 7 p.m. On Tuesday, June 29, Glasgow plays the Billings Cardinals at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
