Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Glasgow Scottie Bailee Baxter has committed to take her skills to the next level. The 2021 graduate has signed with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D., to play flute with the school's orchestra.
The flutist chose the school because it is the school closest to home that offers degrees in the atmospheric sciences. Baxter, who is looking forward to life after graduation, said, "My degree will be for Environmental and Atmospheric Science, but I like to shorten it up by saying Meteorology."
She has been playing the flute since middle school, giving her nearly a decade of experience. Of her accomplishments as a musician and what makes her most proud, she said, "There has been a lot of moments, but I think the biggest is getting four superior scorings at music festival." Baxter enjoys jazz and slow moving classics when it comes to performing. As for listening enjoyment, her tastes run the musical gamut from My Chemical Romance to Mumford & Sons.
Though she is ready to move forward, Baxter says she will miss the traditions of being a Scottie.
