Reds Kick Off 2021 Season

The Glasgow Reds kicked off their 2021 season in Havre on May 16, unfortunately starting their record 0-2. The team got on the board first against Helena, but could not maintain and lost the game 13-1. Back on the field against the host team, Glasgow mustered more offense but lost 12-3 to the Havre North Stars.

Jack Kolstad scored the Reds’ lone run in the game against Helena, rounding home in the first inning on a single line drive to right field by Juliun Benson. Glasgow’s defense kept the game close, allowing Helena only two runs in the bottom of the second. However, the game shifted in the bottom of the fourth when Helena exploded for 11 runs to secure the win.

Benson had the only Scottie RBI of the game and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Kolstad and Calvin Bengochea both went 1-for-2. JT Sprague took the loss pitching for Glasgow, allowing nine runs on seven hits over three and two-thirds innings. Mason Hunter threw for a third of an inning, allowing four runs on six hits.

Glasgow was back on the field immediately, this time to face the Havre North Stars. Despite taking the lead in the first inning, Glasgow was unable to sustain their offense as Havre’s came alive.

Sprague crossed home first for the Reds, scoring on a Benson double. Tel Aune scored on a Kristian Price ground out. The North Stars sent one runner home in the bottom of the inning before keeping the Reds off the board in the top of the second. Havre tied the game in the bottom of the inning at 2 a piece.

Tatum Hansen rounded the bases in the top of the third, scoring Glasgow’s final run in the game on a Benson triple line drive. Havre added six runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fifth to claim the 12-3 victory.

Mason Donaldson took the loss for Glasgow at the mound, pitching for four and two-thirds innings. He allowed 12 runs on 12 hits, while throwing a 64.1 strike percentage. Mark Eliason threw 11 pitches, allowing one hit and Kolstad threw four pitches in the game.

Benson went 3-for-3 at the plate for Glasgow, sending in two runners for scores. Price added the other RBI for the Reds. Aune went 2-for-4 at the plate while Hansen, Price, Hunter, Jordan Plummer and Jeremiah Benson all added hits. Hansen had two stolen bases.

In Babe Ruth action, Glasgow traveled to Wolf Point on May 16 for a pair of games. Glasgow won both games, 11-6 and 15-3.

The Reds will be back on the road this weekend, traveling to Glendive for a doubleheader on Sunday, May 23. Game times are 2 and 4 p.m. against the Blue Devils. The Babe Ruth team will be in Plentywood, Friday, May 21 for a doubleheader with games at 5 and 7 p.m.
