Lions Show Pride

The Lustre Christian Lions competed in the North East Montana Invite and the Whitewater Invite last week, placing in both the girls' and boys' competitions at each event. The girls placed eighth in Wolf Point at the North East Montana Invite and fifth in Whitewater. The boys took fourth in Wolf Point and second in Whitewater.

Alexa Redding, Tiara Whitmus, Aubri Holzrichter and the 4x100 relay team of Holzrichter, Shiarie Birdsbill, Whitmus and Redding were the point earners for Lustre on the girls side. Jasiah Hambira, Cayden Klatt, Braeden Toavs, the 4x100 relay team of Arun Ramnarace, Klatt, Toavs, and Sean Uy and the 4x400 relay team of Toavs, Uy, Klatt and Hambira were the point earners for the Lions' boys team.

Alexa Redding ran the 100m in Wolf Point in 14.67 earning herself a third-place finish. She claimed sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 34.42 seconds. The Lustre freshman placed sixth in the 100m hurdles, finishing the race in 21 seconds flat. The 4x100m relay team ran the competition in 1:02.96 to finish in sixth place.

In field events, Whitmus placed fourth in shot put with a toss of 28'06.5. She won the discus with a throw of 92'09. Redding claimed a third place finish in the long jump, leaping 13'02.5.

In the boys' track events, Hambira placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.84 and fifth in the 200m with a time of 25.59. Toavs claimed fifth and set a personal record in the 400m, running the race in 1:04.08. Klatt took third in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:29.07, a personal record. The freshman also set a personal record in the 1600m, finishing in 5:44.79 which earned him third place.

The 4x100 relay team earned a third-place finish with their time of 53.79 and the 4x400 team was fourth with a time of 4:20.60.

Hambira drew a crowd at the high jump competition, where he won and set a personal record when he cleared 5'10. He also took first place in the long jump with a distance of 18'08.

In Whitewater, Redding won the girls 100m with a time of 14.46 and took fifth in the 200m, finishing in 31.73. She placed fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 21.50. Holzrichter ran the 800min 3:07.98, a personal record, to take fifth place.

Whitmus placed second in the discus with a throw of 97'03, a personal record, and third in the javelin with a throw of 97'04, also a personal record for the senior. Redding jumped 12'11.25 to take fifth in the long jump.

Hambira and Klatt led the Lustre boys, earning three and two first-place finishes, respectively. Hambira won the 200m with a time of 25.23, the high jump at 6'2 (another personal record), and the long jump at 18'04.25. The Lustre sophomore also placed second in the 100m, finishing in 12.69. Hambira qualified for the Class C State Track and Field Meet with his high jump performances last week.

Klatt won the 800m run, finishing in 2:32.83, and the 1600m with a personal record of 5"40.34. Toavs finished second in the 400m, with a time of 1:04.45, and third in the 800m, running the race in 2:38.69. The Lustre senior also claimed fifth in the long jump with his leap of 15'05.75.

The 4x100 relay team finished in 49.84, edging out Malta by a full second to claim first place.

Lustre head coach Lynn Unrau is pleased with her Lions so far this season. "It is going well, we have seen some good improvement, especially out of our freshman class," she told the Courier. The team will next hit the track and field in Lambert on Friday, April 30, for the Richey and Lambert High School Invitational. Field events begin at 1 p.m. and track competition begins at 1:30 p.m.
