Scottie Golf Opens Season in Shelby

Undeterred Scotties Face Cold, Rain and Snow

The Glasgow Scottie golf team traveled across the Hi-Line to Shelby late last week to kick off their 2021 season. As is often the case with Spring Sports in Montana, the Scotties ran into some inclement weather. "It was a super cold day," Coach Todd Truscott said of Friday, which saw rain and snow.

Despite what Mother Nature threw at them, the Scottie Boys posted a third-place finish led by Riley Smith, who tied for fourth place with a score of 87 in varsity competition. Conrad and Fairfield took first and second, respectively. Eli Feezell placed 15th with a score of 103, followed by Keigan Ingram in 16th with a 104 score. Aiden Hoerster claimed 23rd with his score of 114. Vincent Chappell rounded out the varsity team with his score of 123 earning him the 30th place slot.

Rance Rhoads led the JV Boys, taking second place with his score of 90, and Sam Knierim tied for 11th with a score of 126.

The Glasgow Girls team had only two participants in the first meet. Bailee Baxter took 7th place with her 112 score and Shanice Lagerquist placed 8th with a score of 119.

The first meet of the season was lightly attended by the Scotties, who boast 18 members on the boys team and eight on the girls team. Truscott expressed pride in his team's inaugural showing, "Altogether a good starting point for the season. We will continue to work hard and lower our scores."

The Poplar Invitational Meet, which had been scheduled for Thursday, April 1 in Wolf Point, has been indefinitely postponed. Instead, Sunnyside Country Club will host an "Early Bird" match play event for the Scottie Golfers. All Scottie golfers will see action in the event beginning at 9 a.m.
