End Regular Season With Win Over Eagles
The Glasgow Scottie boys basketball team started off the final week of their regular season with a Tuesday night match up against the Dawson County Red Devils, dropping the game 46-30. The boys rebounded back Friday night in Wolf Point, beating the Wolves 66-59. Saturday night at the Dawg Pound for Senior Recognition night, the Scotties put on a show, snatching a double-overtime win against the Sidney Eagles.
At home on Tuesday, the Scotties went down in the first quarter, 19-8, to the Red Devils. The first quarter deficit proved too much for the Scotties who hung even with the visitors for the remainder of the game. Both teams put up 13 points in the second and 5 points in the third. Dawson County outscored Glasgow 9-4 in the final quarter for the 16-point margin of victory.
Keigan Skolrud led Glasgow with 19 points. Hunter Collinsworth scored six, Bergen Miller added a three pointer, and Trevor Klind had two points. Skolrud and Dalton Sand were each called for four fouls and Klind was called for two.
In Wolf Point on Friday, Glasgow took a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained that lead for the remainder of the game. The Scotties added 17 more points in the second to take a 37-31 lead into the break.
After the half, Glasgow continued to build up the margin, putting 15 points on the scoreboard in the third period, while holding Wolf Point to 11. The home team rallied in the final eight minutes, outscoring the Scotties 18 to 14, but Glasgow held on for the 66-59 victory.
Skolrud led the Scottie scoreboard with 32 points including 8-for-13 from the line. Miller added 13 points, hitting two three-pointers and going 5-for-6 from the line. Collinsworth scored 7 points, Chappell hit for 6 points, and Sand, Klind and Riley Smith scored 2 each. Klind, Chappell and Skolrud were each called for three fouls. Sand was called for two while Collinsworth and Smith had one each.
On Saturday, the Scotties jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter over the Eagles powered by strong inside performances from Skolrud and Collinsworth. Sidney clawed back in the second quarter, putting up 17 points to Glasgow's 13 for a Glasgow lead of 28-24 going into the half. The Eagles ended the third quarter within two points, down 43-41 after again putting up 17 points. Sidney outscored Glasgow 10-8 in the fourth quarter to force the game into extra time as the scoreboard read 51 for both sides.
Both teams put up three field goals and a free throw for 7 points in a back-and-forth overtime, with each basket sending players and fans to their feet cheering. The 58-even score forced a second overtime and a defensive battle. Klind hit a shot from beyond the perimeter to secure the one-point victory for the Scotties.
Skolrud led the Scotties again in scoring with 27 points, including 5-of-8 from the free throw line. Collinsworth added 15 points, including 7-of-10 from the line after drawing fouls when crashing the boards. Vinny Chappell added nine points and Miller had seven. Klind had one three-pointer when it counted most.
Skolrud accumulated four fouls, Sand three, Klind and Chappell two each and Collinsworth one.
With the conference win over Wolf Point, the Scotties enter the District 2B tournament in the number three seed and will face the Harlem Wildcats on Thursday at 7 p.m. In the Wolf Point gym.
