PeeWees Drop Two Tough Games in Butte

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs PeeWees team was in Butte this past weekend for a pair of games against the Copper City Kings. The team battled from behind in both games with strong play but Glasgow was unable to secure a win on the road.

On Saturday, Copper City took a 5-1 lead in the first period, with Brody Hansen getting the lone goal for Glasgow. The Dawgs rallied in the second to score three goals while holding Butte to two. Landon Honey (assists Jack Miller and Hansen) and Hansen both put in short handed goals for Glasgow. Jack Miller added an even strength goal late in the period. Glasgow outscored Copper City again in the third period, 2-1, but were unable to overcome the host’s early lead. Hansen put in a PPG with help from JP Cornwell before Cornwell put in a goal of his own.

Hansen, checking, and Halle Hunter, cross-checking, served penalties in the second period, while Hansen took another seat in the third for hooking. Jacob Potter faced 36 total attempts on his net as his team put 25 shots on Copper City’s William Lavelle.

Sunday morning, Glasgow struck first when Hansen found the back of the net for the Dawgs. Copper City put in two goals before the buzzer sounded though to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. The Kings put in two goals in the second period before the Dawgs took over and scored three in a row. Hansen put in two with an assist from Hunter on the first and from Reilly Llewllyn on the second. Gryffen Collins added Glasgow’s fourth goal on an assist from Carter Holte, but Butte would scored the game-winning goal before the intermission. The 5-4 score held through the final period.

Glasgow outshot Copper City 37 to 32 in the game, as Potter turned away 27 pucks. Hansen incurred a double minor for tripping in the first period and Hunter was called for tripping in the second period.

The Glasgow PeeWees host Billings this weekend at the Valley Event Center with games Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31 at noon.
