Win One, Tie One at Home
Hi-Line Youth Hockey played host to a number of hockey games at the Valley Event Center Dec. 5 and 6. The Miles City Generals were in town to face off against the Glasgow Ice Dawgs in the Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam levels. The PeeWees hit the ice first at 10 a.m., taking a decisive 7-2 victory after the Generals scored the first goal of the game and the day. The team was back on the ice Saturday afternoon, this time ending the game with a 7-7 tie.
The Generals first goal came on a power play with an Ice Dawg in the penalty box for holding. Brody Hansen tied the game just 15 seconds later. He scored short-handed on an assist from Landon Honey to give Glasgow the go-ahead goal with 7:42 left in the first.
The Generals scored again first in the second period to tie the game at two apiece. Hansen would find the back of the net twice to give the Ice Dawgs a 4-2 lead before the intermission. He scored once on an assist from Jack Miller and once on a power play kill.
Glasgow put the puck behind the Generals' Gavin Strub three times in the third, including a third shortie. JP Cornwell got on the board for the Dawgs, putting in an even-handed goal with 8:54 left in the game. Cornwell assisted on Hansen's fifth goal of the game, putting Glasgow up 6 to 2. Brock Ciarfardone, on an assist from Hansen, logged the seventh and final Glasgow goal on the kill, giving his team the 7-2 win.
Glasgow's Jacob Potter fended off 21 shots in three periods of play, while his teammate threw 30 pucks at the other end of the ice. Miles City incurred four penalties while the Dawgs were sent to the sin bin eight times.
The PeeWees were back on the ice at 2 p.m. following a break while the Bantams played. Miles City was hungry for payback. The Generals lit up the lamp first, getting a puck past Potter less than a minute into play. Hansen answered back for the Dawgs, evening up the score with 12:22 on the clock. Rallying, the Generals put in four straight goals, going up 5-1 late in the period. Cornwell found the back of the net with 1:31 remaining and Hansen put Glasgow's third goal in with 44 ticks left in the first period.
Cornwell would be the lone scorer in the second period, putting in a goal with an assist from Carter Holte. The score going into intermission had Miles City up by one, 5-4. Glasgow put up 13 shots in the second while Potter faced only five attempts. The Dawgs rallied in the third period, firing the biscuit at Strub 17 times while holding the Generals to six attempts.
Glasgow tallied three goals on those 17 attempts, all even-handed. Miles City scored first in the final period, but Hansen quickly brought the Dawgs back within one. Miles City again went up by two goals with 5:19 to play. Ian Anderson, assisted by Gryffen Collins, cut the Generals lead to one with 3:52 remaining. Hansen put in the tie goal with a mere 25 seconds remaining for the final score of 7-7.
Potter faced 19 shots over three periods. Glasgow had 39 total attempts in the game. Each team incurred two penalties, all four of which were called in the first period. Head coach Del Hansen said on Dec. 6, "Kids played very well. Brody and JP Cornwell played their PeeWee matches and also skated up to Bantams. Four games yesterday. They slept well!"
The PeeWee Ice Dawgs face a rematch against the Generals this weekend. The team will travel to Miles City for a game at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.
