Bantams Host Miles City Generals

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs bantam team took a couple of hard losses Dec. 5 at the Valley Event Center, dropping both games to the Miles City Generals. The visiting team took 6-3 and 6-5 win margins on the Dawgs’ home ice.

Glasgow took an early lead in their first game at noon on Saturday. The Dawgs took a two to nothing lead in the first period, on five shots on goal. Tristan Powell found the back of the net first, assisted by Charlie Cornwell. Mason Hunter then gave the Dawgs the go-ahead goal assisted by Dillon Hughes. Kolten Hansen turned away 14 attempts on his home while his teammates threw five pucks at Generals’ goalie Kenneth Kuchynka.

In the second period, both teams registered 12 shots on goal, but only Miles City converted. The Generals put up three goals in the period to take a 3-2 lead into intermission. Glasgow struck first in the third period to tie the game, when Aiden Price scored an even-handed goal. But Miles City answered back with three straight goals to go on to win the increasingly physical game 6-1.

K. Hansen saw 40 pucks fly his way and his teammates fired 24 shots at Kuchynka. Miles City was called for roughing in the first period, while Glasgow sent three players to the penalty box on calls for slashing, unsportsmanlike and elbowing.

Hitting the ice again at 6 p.m., the Dawgs sought revenge for their home ice loss, but again the Generals would come out on top. The visitors took a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period. Glasgow’s Brody Hansen put Glasgow on the board first, scoring a short-handed goal with Charlie Cornwell in the box on an early interference call. Miles City put up two goals to take the lead, before Bode Barnett, assisted by A. Price, evened up the scoreboard. The Generals scored their third goal 40 seconds later.

Each team would put up two goals in the second period, with Miles City holding their one-goal lead going into intermission. Barnett, assisted by Hunter, scored a short-handed goal early in the second to tie the game. Miles City put two pucks behind K. Hansen to regain their lead before Connor Koski, assisted by Barnett, brought his Dawgs back within one.

Miles City added an insurance goal to start the third period on a power play with Koski serving out the remainder of his second period tripping call. Barnett brought the Dawgs within striking distance, putting the puck in the net with help from Hunter midway through the third. And despite the number of shots Glasgow put on Kuchynka, Miles City’s 6-5 lead held through the final buzzer.

Glasgow put a total of 40 shots on net in the game, topping out at 19 attempts in the third. K. Hansen saw 30 pucks , facing 13 shots in the final period of play. Miles City served six penalties while Glasgow was called for 10 infractions.
