19U Ice Dawgs Kick Off Season in Havre

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs' 19U girls team hit the road to play two games in Havre Nov. 20 and 21 to kick off their season. The Dawgs brought home two tie games, with final scores of 2-2 and 5-5.

Glasgow battled back from an early deficit in game one to tie the game and avoid the defeat. In a clean first period, Ice Hawk Jersi Mors found the back of the net with 6:19 remaining on the clock. The Hawks added an insurance goal in the second period on a goal by Frances Hanson assisted by Clara Holland and Jocelyn Staples.

Glasgow rebounded after the intermission as Havre struggled, racking up four penalties in the final 17 minutes of play. The Ice Dawgs capitalized on two of those power plays, going 50 percent on the man advantages. Ava Lloyd put the Dawgs on the scoreboard, assisted by Tatum Provencher with 3:27 remaining in the game. Provencher then tied the game on an assist from Tori Pehlke with a mere 11 seconds remaining. The 2-2 score held until the final buzzer.

Dawgs' goalie Elizabeth Nyquist turned in a 75 percent on saves, turning away six of eight attempts on her net. Glasgow outshot Havre, throwing 34 pucks at Mackenzie Kuhn in three periods. Provencher served the only Glasgow penalty, sitting two minutes in the third for tripping.

Saturday's game saw Glasgow take control early on even-strength goals from Shanice Lagerquist, assisted by Halley Hunter, and Lloyd, assisted by Kimber Dulaney. Havre battled back to tie the score at two apiece on goals from Morse and Clara Holland, assisted by Staples.

Lagerquist and Pehlke added two more goals for the Dawgs in the second period to improve Glasgow's lead to 4-2 before intermission. Kylie Lagerquist, on an assist from Dulaney, took the Dawgs' lead to 5-2 just 1:36 into the third. However, Havre was not ready to give up the fight. The Ice Hawks found their way past Nyquist three more times. Staples, assist Sophie Kirkpatrick; Hanson, assist Grace Ymzon; and Staples, assist Talia Ralph, propelled Havre to a 5-5 final.

Nyquist faced 19 attempts in the game, while her teammates threw 40 shots at Kuhn on the other end of the ice. Klaire Krumwiede served a two-minute penalty for hooking and K. Lagerquist served two minutes for tripping, both in the third period. Havre accumulated three penalties in the game.

The 19U Ice Dawgs will next be on the ice Dec. 5 and 6, when they travel to Missoula. Game times are 1 p.m on Dec. 5, and 9 a.m. on Dec. 6.
