Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Scottie girls cross country team claimed a first-place spot at the Nemont Invitational on Oct. 15 in Fort Peck. The girls finished with a score of 62, over half the score of second place Poplar at 131.
Iris McKean continued to shine, leading the Scotties with a first place run of 19:32. Freshman Emily See logged a fourth-place finish at 21:00. Rounding off the Scottie top five were Haylly Turner (11th), Eve Stone (19th), and Kira Beck (27th).
Girls runner Shanice Laugerquist said the meet was good and a fast course lacking in hills, but it still came with challenges like high wind and tough competition. Laugerquist said "Yeah wind and it was really cold [were challenges]," but she added there were no "flying cactuses this time."
The Scottie boys brought home third coming in 11 points behind first place Wolf Point and just three points behind second place Richey-Lambert at 52 for the Scotties.
Carl Zabrocki led the boys with a first-place time of 16:51. Lane Thompson followed up in sixth place with a time of 18:14 and Bergen Miller completed the top three Scotties in ninth place with a time of 18:28.
The Scotties head to state cross country next in Kallispell on Oct. 23 hoping to add some hardware to the halls of Glasgow High. Laugerquist is hoping the girls pull off a first-place meet and thinks the same is possible for the Scottie boys as well.
Elizabeth Nyquist shared her thoughts on the Scotties' chances at state saying she thinks the team will bring a trophy home, she just hopes it will be first.
