Scottie Cross Country Team Claims First In Frazer

Race in Last Away Meet Of Reg. Season

The Glasgow Scottie boys and girls cross country teams had a pretty good week overall. After dominating a small field of competitors in Frazer, the Scotties claimed a first-place boys finish and a second-place girls finish in Plentywood against a deeper and faster pool of competitors.

Speaking on Frazer’s Oct. 8 meet, Scottie runner Elizabeth Nyquist said, “Not a lot of people were there. We all got medals. We all placed really good.”

In fact the Scotties claimed eight of the top nine slots for the boys with only 10 total runners at the meet. The Scottie girls had six of the 12 total runners at the meet.

Scotter runner Eli Feezell said the small crowd gave the Scotties few choices for pacing, but still thinks the team did well, all things considered. “I think it went pretty well,” said Feezell. “There weren’t so many teams, so there wasn’t that many people to run off of but I thought we did pretty good.”

The Oct. 10 meet in Plentywood on the other hand attracted more competition and gave the Scotties one last chance to race on a course outside of Valley County before the State meet. The result was a strong one facing off against some tough racers with the Scottie boys claiming first led by Carl Zabrocki in second and Lane Thompson in first. In all, the Scottie boys had four runners finish in the top 10.

First-year runner Riley Smith describes Plentywood as more difficult but a better race for the Scotties. He said between more competition and a tough course, he thinks the Scotties had a better day in Plentywood than in Frazer.

Smith said he’s looking forward to the NEMONT Invitational in Fort Peck on Oct. 15 before moving into the State meet. All three of the Scotties interviewed said they expect to run well on their home course, and they definitely plan on bringing home hardware from State.
