Scottie Harriers Face "Good Competition" in Miles City

The Scottie Girls cross country team placed fourth in Miles City on Oct. 3 as the boys’ team claimed a fifth-place finish facing their largest and most competitive meet so far this season. For both teams, much of the competition were from Class A schools. As a result of the fast competition over half of the Scottie runners (seven of 13 to be exact) set new personal records on the course.

“It went really good,” said Scottie runner Lane Thompson describing the races. “It was one of our biggest meets we’ve had this year. It’s a really fast course and we had some good competition.”

Iris McKean continued her outstanding season with yet another first place finish and recording a new personal record at 19:38.87. The next fastest Scottie on the girls team, freshman Emily See, came in at fifth in the large field of athletes and recorded her personal best at 20:48.80.

Leading the Scottie boys was senior Carl Zabrocki who placed fifth and put up a time of 17:20.30, his fastest race to date. Lane Thompson followed behind in 11th place and also logged a new personal record at 18:08.84.

The Scotties will head to Frazer on Oct. 6 and then on to Plentywood on Oct. 8.

“Frazer is super hilly,” explained Thompson. “It has a couple really big hills.” He added that they expected it to be a slower race, but the Scotties were confident going into the race.
