Men’s League Closes Out 2020 Season
Sunnyside Golf and Country Club’s Men’s League 2020 season closed out last week, on Sept. 21, with the final round of golf being played to determine this year’s championship team and proud recipient of the Prestigious Squires Cup.
Taking home top honors and bragging rights this year was D&G Sports & Western’s team, comprised of Todd Truscott, Boyd Sinclair, Levi Sugg and Jim McColly. The team beat out Cottonwood Inn last Tuesday, after defeating C&B Operations the day before. D&G came from last place in the playoffs to win it all.
Truscott, who played his first full season at Sunnyside since moving back to Glasgow, succinctly said of D&G’s win, “I had a good team.”
Cottonwood Inn had tied with Arch’s Tire in round 2, after nine holes of golf. The teams agreed on a playoff tiebreaker hole. Cottonwood’s Tyler Partridge made an amazing chip across the backside of hole 1, over the sand and followed that with a 10-foot putt for par, sealing the win for his team.
In round one action, eighth-seed D&G upset the number-one ranked team Xyience Nemont. C&B Operations, #3, outplayed #6 Ultra Nemont. Cottonwood Inn, #5, knocked out fourth-ranked BergHouse, and the seventh-ranked team, Arch’s Tire, surprised second-ranked Buechler Insurance.
