Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Glasgow Scottie Student Council Paint Run/Walk A Success
Roughly 40 participants came out to support Warriors on the Water, run five kilometers and be painted a myriad of bright dusty colors on Aug. 8. The event, held annually by the Glasgow Scottie Student Council, raises money for the veteran-oriented charity organization which hosts a summer fishing weekend at the Fort Peck Reservoir for military veterans from across the United States and who served in various armed conflicts.
Runners lined up at 9 a.m. to take the route encompassing much of Glasgow's south side, wrapping around from the Civic Center, turning west down 2nd Ave S and then taking the levy back around to the street in front of the Glasgow Elks. A total of five kilometers were walked or ran. Along the way volunteers from the student council, Scottie Cross Country, the Flatland Cruisers, Valley County HOPE Project, Milk River Inc. and the Wersel/Copple family covered the runners-head to toe-in chalk dust paint.
Scottie student council advisor Rod Karst said the event "went well" this year, but the final number of monies raised won't be known until the group clears the bill for the run's T-shirts. It's likely that with the participants and 34 local business sponsoring the group will be able to donate more than $3,000.
The year 2020 marked the sixth annual Paint Run/Walk for the Scotties and each year they've raised thousands for veterans organizations to include Warriors on the Water and Healing Waters. Both organizations dedicate volunteers and resources to helping veterans-especially those affected by wars and armed conflicts-get outdoors through fishing, shooting and hunting sports.
