The Glasgow Reds traveled to Billings for the Eastern A District American Legion Baseball Tournament, held July 30 through Aug 2. The Reds suffered defeats in the first two games, ending their bid for a top slot in the double-elimination tournament.
In the first game of the tournament, the Reds took to the field against the Miles City Mavericks on Thursday at noon. The Reds were looking to avenge an 11-1 loss on July 26 to the Mavericks, which ended the Reds' regular season.
Though the Reds managed to get runners on base in the first three innings, they were unable to convert into runs on the scoreboard. The Reds kept the Mavericks off the big board until the bottom of the third.
Scoring four runs in the third, Miles City took control of the game and held on to it for the remaining innings. Chase Guttenberg put the only run on the board for the Reds in the top of the fourth inning when he stole home. The Mavericks added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. They held the Reds scoreless for the remaining three innings, while adding a sixth run in the bottom of the sixth.
Rance Rhoads took the loss for Glasgow, allowing five hits and four runs in three innings while striking out three and registering no walks. Keigan Ingram relieved Rhoads in the bottom of the fourth. He allowed three hits and one run in two innings, and struck out two. Tatum Hansen took the mound in the bottom of the sixth and allowed one run and one hit. Tel Aune and Calvin Bengochoa registered the only two hits for the Reds in the game.
Friday morning at 11 a.m., the Reds hit the diamond against the Laurel Dodgers in their attempt to keep their tournament berth alive. The Reds kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard to start the game, while putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Laurel answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second while keeping Glasgow off the board.
The Dodgers kept their momentum going in the top of the third, adding five runs to the Reds' one in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-4 going into the fourth. Both teams came out with strong defenses with neither team notching a run in the inning.
Each team put two more runs up in the fifth. Kristian Price and Calvin Bengochea crossed home plate to mark the last home runs of the year for Glasgow. Laurel went on to score twice more in the sixth inning and five more times in the seventh, to take the 16-6 victory and end the Reds' season.
Jordan Plummer took the loss for the Reds at the mound, allowing four hits and seven runs in 2.1 innings. Mason Donaldson, Mason Hunter, Riley Smith and Guttenberg each took a turn throwing the ball over the plate. Donaldson allowed four hits and zero runs, Hunter allowed two hits and two runs, Smith pitched zero hits and two runs and Guttenberg delivered three hits and five runs.
