4-H Youth Demonstrate Ranch Skills At Horse Show
Addison Young maneuvers her horse through a small herd of calves as part of the Cattle Work Level 2 portion of the 4-H Horse Show on July 24 at the Northeastern Montana Fairgrounds. Young won High Point Overall honors and Top Green Horse Level 2.
The rodeo arena was filled with 4-H members, their horses, families and judges for the annual 4-H Horse Show July 23 and 24 at the Northeastern Montana Fairgrounds.
Putting their horses through their paces, the 4-H kids went through several events such as horsemanship, English horsemanship and speed events. Club members from across the county participated before the eyes of the judges, presenting skills they have worked on for the past year.
Madelynn Tatufu won the Grand Championship for prejunior showmanship and Tenley Allestad was named Reserve Champion. In the Junior Showmanship competition Tatum Nyquist claimed the Grand Champion title and Zora Holt the Reserve Champion.
William Kirkland took home the Top Yearling award and Tatum Nyquist won the Top Two Year Old prize. Laynee Simpson won Top Green Horse Level 1 and Addison Young won Top Green Horse Level 2.
In English Horsemanship, Tenley Allestad won Level 1, Laynee Simpson Level 2 and Addison Young Level 3. Reata Walden won Top Horsemanship Level 1, Addison Idler Level 2 and Dylon Allestad took top place in Level 3.
Cherry Creek club took home the Club Herdsmanship Award this year and Madelynn Tatafu was named the winner of the Individual Herdsmanship Award. Weston Kirkland and Tenley Allestad tied for top honors in the Speed Events. Addison Young was the High Point Overall winner while William Kirkland took Ranch Horse All Around honors and Tenley Allestad was named All Around winner. Dylon Allestad took home the Sportsmanship Award.
4-H events will continue this week at the fairgrounds with veteranarian inspections and weigh-ins beginning Wednesday, July 29. Judging for sheep, goats, dogs, cats, rabbit and poultry will begin Wednesday afternoon. The Farm Olympics will be back Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
Thursday will feature swine and beef showmanship and judging. The annual 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale will take place on Friday at 1 p.m. with pre-sale viewing at 12:30 p.m.
Public viewing of the Open Class Exhibits will be held Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The evening events and carnival have been canceled this year.
