The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team traveled to Lewistown on July 18 and 19 where they claimed second place, behind first-place Lewistown, competing with the western teams of the eastern division. The teams competing were Malta, Chinook, Harlem, Lewistown, Roundup and Glasgow.
The Thunder traveled with 26 athletes out of 150 total swimming in the weekend. From here the Thunder will head to Sidney on July 25 and 26 for the season closeout meet for the eastern division. There is no scheduled state meet this year due to public health restrictions.
Head coach Ethan Shrader was happy with how the meet turned out for the team this past weekend. “Every swimmer swam their best races, and our team is looking forward to our last meet in Sidney later this week,” said Shrader. “We still have a ways to go, but every swimmer swam with all their heart and I am proud of what we accomplished this weekend. We also took second place as a team over all, which is a major improvement, and we will continue to work hard.”
Head coach Ethan Shrader highlighted a few key performances from the event writing to the Courier in an email:
“Haylly Turner, 15 years old, swam her best 50-meter Freestyle in a time of 31.81 and took second in the event. She also took second in the 100-meter breaststroke.
“Dalton Sand, 15 years old, took first in the 50-meter butterfly with an impressive time of 29.75. He also won the 200 I.M. [individual medley] and took third in the 400-meter Freestyle, this being another race that came down to the finish.
“Raelee Dowden won her 100-meter butterfly in an impressive 1:18.73 which broke the previous pool record in Lewistown which was set in 2017. She also won the 50-meter butterfly and tied for first place high points.
“Haleigh Huntsman took second in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 45.28. Also, she took first in the 50-meter breast stroke with a time of 50.95. We have been focused on working her technique and it really showed in this meet.
“Holt Huntsman swam the 50-meter butterfly and took second. He also took second in the 100-meter breaststroke. He took first in the 100 meter I.M.with an impressive swim.
“Molly Miller dropped 30 seconds in her 25-meter backstroke and took seventh in the eight and under age group.
“Abigail Kulczyk, 13 years old, took second in the 100-meter fly, and third in the 50-fly, both were amazing swims where the placing came down to the finish.”
