Train Collides With Truck At Hinsdale Crossing

The Valley County Sheriff's Office has confirmed to The Glasgow Courier that a train collided with a pickup truck at the rail crossing in Hinsdale at around 11:40 a.m. on July 18. No serious injuries resulted from the collision and the single occupant of the pickup had been examined by emergency medical technicians on scene.

Asked if the driver was harmed, VCSO Chief Deputy Joe Tihlarik said emphatically, "Not a scratch."

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, but the Chief Deputy did say that it appears the driver had stopped for a westbound train at the rail-crossing guard. When the train had passed, he went around the guards before they had risen and collided with an eastbound train on the far tracks.

The loaded train was traveling at approximately 60 mph and took miles to stop. Those aboard the train were unharmed and no damage to the track was reported. MHP, and BNSF inspectors are investigating the collision. Tihlarik said no other factors appear to have contributed to the crash, but reiterated the investigation is ongoing.
