Glasgow Reds Continue To Add Wins To Their Record

Over the past week, the Glasgow Reds have seen plenty of game action. They traveled to Havre on July 7, for what was supposed to be a double-header against the Northstars however Mother Nature reduced the match up to one longer-than-normal game. They then hosted the Wolf Point Yellowjackets on July 11 for a double-header match-up, hoping to gain more wins after beating them last week on their home field. The Reds battled it out again on July 12 in Froid against the Homestead Bulls, also hoping to keep the winning bragging rights which was established last weekend.

Mother Nature brought severe weather all along the Hi-Line on July 7 however the Reds and the Northstars were able to battle it out in nine innings before calling it an evening. Even though the Reds collected 10 hits compared to the Northstar's nine, the Reds fell six to three. Game action started right away in the first inning for the Northstars, who managed one run late in the inning. Neither team made their way around the bases until the fifth inning, when the Reds scored two runs, courtesy of Tatum Hansen and Chase Guttenberg. The Northstars followed up with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, ending the inning four to two. The Northstars were able to score two more runs, one each in the seventh and eighth innings, securing the win as the Reds were only able to score one more run in the ninth inning, courtesy of Jack Kolstad. Tel Aune started the game for the Reds, allowing three hits and one run over four innings, while striking out three and walking one. Rance Rhoads took the loss for the Reds, surrendering five runs on six hits over four innings, while striking out one. Guttenberg, Kristian Price, JT Sprague, and Aune all collected multiple hits for the Reds, with Aune, Sprague, Price and Guttenberg each collecting two hits to lead in hitting for the Reds.

The Reds took their break in game play to reflect upon their loss, work as a team and made up for it when they hosted the Wolf Point Yellowjackets on July 11. The first game of the day saw domination against the Yellowjackets due to Guttenberg's no-hitter game to lead past Wolf Point 15 to nothing. The Reds opened up the scoring in the first inning, courtesy of Calvin Bengochea singling on a hard ground ball in the second play of the inning, allowing him to advance around the bases due to Price's single and Rhoads grounding into the fielder's choice to shortstop. The second inning did not see any action for either team, however that quickly changed in the bottom of the third when the Reds scored 10 runs with the offensive fire dominated by Price, Keigan Ingram and Bengochea, who all drove in runs. The bottom of the fourth inning saw the Reds score four more runs due to singles and batters being hit by the pitch. Price collected four hits in four at bats to help lead the Reds to the win. He singled in the first and third inning and doubled in the third and fourth innings, contributing to the high scoring outcome. The Reds totaled 10 hits in the game, with Price, Bengochea and Ingram each managing multiple hits for the Reds. The Reds did not commit a single error in the field.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Reds continued to dominate the Yellowjackets, scoring 18 runs alone in the bottom of the first inning. A series of walks and the batter being hit by pitches thrown by Yellowjackets pitcher Andrew Azure assisted the Reds in racking up the points. The Reds continued the scoring in the bottom of the second, scoring an additional two runs, and then another run in the fourth, ending the game 21 to three. Mason Donaldson led the Reds to victory, lasting all five innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out four and not walking any players. The Reds tallied a total of 16 hits in the game with Guttenberg, Aune, Aiden Hoerster, Price and Calvin Bengochea all having multiple hits.

The Reds hoped to keep their high scoring momentum into the double-header against Froid on July 12, however the Homestead Bulls were a tougher competition for the Reds. In the first game, back and forth action started in the first half of the game, with the Reds scoring one run in the first inning, courtesy of Price singling on a one-one count, and two runs in the third inning, courtesy of Bengochea getting a double, which scored one run, tying the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. The Bulls however managed four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, and one more run in the bottom of the sixth, sealing the win 8 to three. Rance Rhoads took the loss for the Reds, as he surrendered seven runs on 10 hits over five innings and striked out eight. The Reds collected eight hits, with Aune and Price managing multiple hits. Aune also went three-for-three at the plate to lead the Reds in hits.

The second game saw the Homestead Bulls gain a lead early on, scoring two runs in the first, one run in the second and two runs in the third. The Reds managed to score one run in the first inning, and a lull in action on their part saw the game quickly slipping away, until the top of the fourth inning, when the Reds decided they did not want to go home with another loss. The first play of the inning saw Sprague get hit by a pitch which allowed him to advance. The third play then saw Jordan Plummer also get hit by a pitch, allowing Sprague to advance to third as a result of an error after stealing second in the play. Sprague would score in the next play after Hansen hit the ground ball and an error by the Homestead Bulls' pitcher occurred. Continued singles and groundouts would contribute to the Reds staying competitive. In the top of the sixth, the game was tied at nine, when Price scored due to Bengochea grounding out. Rhoads would advance the score on a steal of home plate in the late play of the inning, ending the inning with the lead, 10-9. The Reds would add one more run to their score in the seventh, ending the game 11-10. Price threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last six outs to earn the save. The Reds ended up racking up 10 hits in the game, led by Price, Guttenberg, Sprague and Rhoads all managing multiple hits. Price would again led the team with three hits in four at bats.

The Reds are scheduled to take on the Havre Northstars at home on Wednesday, July 15, and then travel to Laurel to take on the Dodgers on Friday, July 17.
