The Mill Grinds Way to Champs

For over 50 years, softball teams from across the region have traveled to Fort Peck for the Annual John Hahn Memorial Softball Tournament. The novel coronavirus was not about to change tradition. Eleven teams from Glasgow, Sidney, Billings, Williston, Wolf Point and Malta hit the John Hahn Field this year to compete for the top spot.

Over the three-day weekend, the 11 teams played 20 games. Campers and fans surrounded the diamond, cheering on their favorites. "This is great," enthused Brenner Flaten, who was helping run the tournament. "What a perfect weekend."

At the end of the three days of sun and fun, The Mill from Billings, Mont., claimed their fourth title in a row. The Mill beat State Farm (Billings) 29-26 in the 53rd annual championship game to take home the $1,000 cash prize. State Farm defeated H&R Construction (Sidney) 29-17 in the consolation finals, giving H&R Construction a third place finish after defeating ADC Foundation (Glasgow) 19-2 in the fourth place game.

Tres Storey from the Irving Law team nailed a perfect seven-for-seven to claim the title of Home Run Derby Champion. O'shon Oldmouse from The Mill was named the Offensive MVP for the second year in a row. The Mill's Chris Bowman was honored as the Defensive MVP this year.
