The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team Thunder hosted the western half of northeast Montana's Federation Swimmers on June 20 and 21 at Hoyt Park for the season opener. Traveling to Glasgow were dozens of swimmers and spectators from Lewistown, Roundup, Chinook and Malta.
Highlighting the weekend, head coach Ethan Schrader,provided the following standouts:
Haylly Turner, 15 years old, swam her best 50-meter Freestyle in a time of 32.33 and took first in the event. She also took fourth in the 100-meter Freestyle.
Klaire Krumwiede, 16 years old, won the 100-meter Freestyle in a true nailbiter of a race. She swam a 1:15.01 and has been focused on working on her turns and tempo (speed).
Wade Fuhrman swam out of his mind taking third on the boys eight and under 25-free in addition to three fourth places.
Haleigh Huntsman took second in the 50-meter backstroke by less than a second. Also, she took first in the 50-meter breast stroke with a time of 53.21.
Holt Huntsman swam the 50-meter fly and took third.
Allie Palm swam her best 100-meter freestyle and took third in a race that came down to the touch.
The eight and under girls freestyle relay took first.
The girls 15 and over freestyle took first in an epic show of sprinting and kicking.
"Every swimmer swam their best races, and our team is looking forward to the rest of the year," said the coach. "I am excited to see how every swimmer will only improve from this meet to the next. We still have a ways to go, but every swimmer swam with all their heart and I am proud of what we accomplished this weekend."
Full results from the meet were unavailable at press time. The Thunder are scheduled to travel next to Harlem to compete over the weekend of July 4.
