Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
After weeks of uncertainty of whether or not there would be a baseball season as the state started its reopening plan, the Glasgow Reds officially started their season at home field on June 13 with a double-header against the Laurel Dodgers, followed by another double-header against the Glendive Blue Devils on June 14.
The first game against the Dodgers saw the Reds struggle to defend themselves against the powerful Laurel offense. The Reds gave up 21 runs throughout the five innings of play, only getting themselves on the board during the third-inning due to an RBI error by Reds' Tatum Hansen. The first inning of play sealed the fate for the Reds as the Dodgers scored nine runs due to a home run and a single by Richie Cortese, an error, and a single by Keagan Thompson. The Dodgers followed up their scoring with two runs in the second, one run both in the third and fourth and eight runs in the fifth, ending the game with a 21-3 win. Pitcher Keigan Ingram for the Reds took the loss, pitching one and one-third innings, while allowing 11 runs on six hits.
The second game against the Dodgers fared a little better for the Reds. The Reds fell behind early, getting three runs in the second inning, courtesy of Chase Guttenberg and Tel Aune, and one run in the third inning, courtesy of Hansen, after the Dodgers started the game with five runs by the end of the second. The Dodgers continued their scoring with one run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh. The Reds were only able to score two more runs in the fifth, courtesy of Rance Rhodes and Ingram, and one more run in the sixth, courtesy of Aune, taking home the loss by three, 10 to 7. Pitcher Tatum Hansen took the loss for the Reds, pitching two and a third innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out one. Mason Donaldson started the game, pitching for two innings, allowing five runs on three hits.
The Reds hoped to turn things around the next day in their double-header against the Glendive Blue Devils on home field. The first game was delayed as a result of Mother Nature bringing showers to the area but the delay didn't hurt the Blue Devils' mindset to take home the wins.
The first game saw the Blue Devils win by seven, scoring a total of 10 runs to the Reds' three. Offensive game action started in the third inning for the Reds, as they scored two runs, courtesy of Guttenberg and Aune, while game action started for the Blue Devils in the fourth with four runs. The Blue Devils kept the lead, scoring three runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth, while the Reds only added to their score in the sixth inning, courtesy of a run by Hansen. Guttenberg took the loss for the Reds, allowing seven hits and seven runs over five innings. Ingram led the team in hits for the game going two for three at the plate.
The Blue Devils again took the lead in the second game of which the Reds couldn't come back from. In the second inning, the Blue Devils got on the board due to a sacrifice fly and continued to score each subsequent inning, while the Reds were only able to score two runs in the fifth inning, courtesy of Jack Kolstad and Aune. There was a break in the action during the sixth inning, where neither team scored, but the Blue Devils kicked it up a notch during the seventh inning. The Reds were only able to score two runs in the seventh, courtesy of Jordan Plummer and Kolstad, while the Blue Devils scored 11 runs, sealing the win, 16 to four. Rhodes took the loss for the Reds, pitching for six innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
After taking on the Homestead Bulls on June 16 at home, the Reds will have another double header home series on Saturday, June 20, against the Glendive Blue Devils B, with the games starting at 1 and 3 p.m. The team will then travel to Lewistown to take on the Gillette Rustlers and the Havre North Stars on Saturday, June 21.
