Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Dear Editor,
To the wonderful people of Glasgow, Montana,
My 20-year-old daughter boarded an Amtrak train at 1 a.m. on May 28, in Rochester, N.Y., heading to Seattle, where she would board a plane to Alaska for a summer job. On the morning of Friday, May 29, she began feeling ill. Later that morning her train tragically hit a tractor, killing the driver.
She was driven to the nearest town where she received medical care for her illness. She boarded a bus to the next train station and was going to continue on to Seattle when she realized she was not well enough to stay on the train. She got off in Glasgow and received medical care for her illness, and found herself 1800 miles from home and alone.
She spent four nights in your town, and reported to me each day how you had all been so wonderful to her. The Doctor gave her his personal cell phone number and told her she could call at any hour of the day or night. His wife gave her rides to and from the hospital. The people at the Rundle Suites looked out for her, cared for her, and provided her food.
After four days, she was back on the train and has landed in Alaska. I can not express enough gratitude to all of you who played a role in her recovery and helped to make her feel safe and cared for. In such tumultuous times it is acts like this that restore my faith in humanity.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Steve Randall
