Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Children and families in Glasgow saw a new addition to their neighborhood last week, the Jump N Buck Ice Cream Truck driven by Kevin Taylor. Over 30 years since Taylor first had an ice cream truck with his brother, Shayne, Taylor is making a comeback to provide treats and smiles to the Glasgow community.
"Most people remember the ice cream truck from when they were a kid, not realizing that it was also me then," laughed Taylor. Even though the previous ice cream truck still exists, there is a lot of work that needs to be done on it, so Taylor decided to create two new trucks for this new age adventure. One truck will be the Glasgow truck with plans of having the second truck for a Fort Peck route in the summer. "This is something that I wanted to put together for the community," explained Taylor for his motivation to bring the traditional ice cream truck back into the community.
The name, Jump N Buck, is a play on words from Taylor's rodeo days. "When we started selling ice cream at Taylor Storage, I was told I have to call it something rodeo related," explained Taylor. "When someone is asked what they are doing on Saturday night, they say 'buck and jump' so I changed around the words to make Jump N Buck."
Taylor is serving a variety of Wilcoxson, of Billings, ice cream including bars, sandwiches, cups of ice cream, popsicles, cones, and even pop and water. Each item ranges from one to three dollars with the option to also purchase half gallon ice cream for $10. He plans on being out everyday, dependent on the weather. "If I don't have an appointment with my boat on the lake and the weather holds up, I'll be out!," stated Taylor.
He is picking up the route from his original venture as the ice cream man, but admits the route is fuzzy. "It's been 30 years since I last did this!," he laughed. Per requests from customers, he is also adding Scotsman Drive and Sawney Drive to the route. "The best bet to know the route is to go on my Facebook Page," stated Taylor, as the route will change from day to day.
The Glasgow community has really enjoyed this new addition even though the weather hasn't exactly been ice cream weather.
"Last week it was in the upper 60s and people were tickled. I have been getting random text messages and Facebook messages. There have been a mixed of reactions with people not knowing what to do, to those who are screaming when I arrive. An 18-year-old told me last week 'Oh My God you have to come out more often, I haven't seen my mom run like that before!'," Taylor explained.
"We love having an ice cream truck in town! The kids get so excited when they hear the music coming down the street and us parents get to reminisce about our childhood days, chasing down the ice cream truck! What a great addition to the already great family town that Glasgow is!," exclaimed Cara Budde, whose children as well as other children in the Firth Place cul de sac were able to enjoy the treats on May 6.
"The ice cream truck was the coolest thing ever. I hope I get to see it again and the driver. I hope every kid in town got to see it," stated Daniel Seiler, who was able to enjoy the treats on May 8 with his friends.
Taylor accepts credit cards, with a five percent convenience fee, as well as cash. Parents who wish to purchase in advance to ensure their child has funds when the truck comes, a punch card can be purchased at Taylor's Storage, the BS Buzz or at the truck for $20. "The punch card idea started in the event parents aren't home, or the kids are with their friends and don't have cash on them," explained Taylor.
In addition to driving the route this summer, as weather permits, Taylor also plans at being at the Northeast Montana Fair serving cones and scoops of ice cream as well as at the concert and rodeos.
Taylor can be contacted via his Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Jump-N-Buck-Ice-Cream-Truck-102456604800745/ or via phone, 406-230-2259. He also welcomes anyone who wants the truck at a birthday party or graduation party to give him a call.
