PeeWee Ice Dawgs Win Three, Tie One in Miles City

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs' PeeWees team traveled to Miles City this past weekend, Feb. 1 and 2, to put on a clinic. Facing off against the host team and the Great Falls Americans, the team added three to their wins column and tied one.

Glasgow made their intentions for the weekend clear early in their first game, racing out to a 5-1 lead in the first period. Bode Barnett, assist Brody Hansen, put the Dawgs on the board first. The Generals of Miles City scored a short-handed goal, but Glasgow would add four unanswered goals before the buzzer sounded.

JP Cornwell (assist Barnett), Hansen, Tavin Boland (short-handed) and Charlie Cornwell (assist JP Cornwell) scored on 14 attempts on goal for Glasgow. Ice Dawgs' netminder Jacob Potter denied three attempts between the pipes.

Halle Hunter kicked off the second-period scoring, with JP Cornwell (assist C. Cornwell) adding another goal less than a minute later. Barnett then made it 8-1, and followed by assisting on C. Cornwell's goal, adding to the PeeWees total. Boland found the back of the net next for the Dawgs. JP Cornwell, with the help of C. Cornwell, took it to 11. C. Cornwell teamed up with Barnett for the next Glasgow goal and Hansen put the last one up for his team with just seconds left before intermission. Miles City managed a single goal in the second, giving Glasgow the 13-2 lead going into the final period.

The Dawgs put up three more goals in the third, holding the Generals to one for a final score of 16-3. Hansen, C. Cornwell and Boland put the puck in the net for Glasgow. The Dawgs put 46 shots on the Generals netminder, while Potter faced only nine attempts between the posts. Hansen (tripping), Gryffen Collins (hooking) and Boland (hooking) each served penalties for Glasgow.

Glasgow was back on the ice that afternoon to take on the Great Falls Americans, who held even with the Dawgs, ending the game in a 5-5 tie. The Americans struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Dawgs attacked in the second, putting up three goals to the Americans' one. Barnett was first on the board, with C. Cornwell (assist Kimber Dulaney) next. Boland, with help from C. Cornwell rounded out Glasgow's scoring before the intermission.

Great Falls put up three goals in the third, while allowing two for Glasgow. Barnett scored Glasgow's fourth goal, and C. Cornwell, with help from JP Cornwell, found the back of the net for their fifth. The Ice Dawgs outshot the Americans, 37 to 25, and played a clean game while the Americans served time for three penalties.

The two teams faced off again Sunday morning, but Glasgow was not about to let Great Falls take the win in the game. Taking a 1-0 lead in the first, the Dawgs dominated the game, going on to win with a final score of 7-3. Hansen led the team in scoring, getting the first period goal, and adding two more to start the second period. C. Cornwell found the back of the net next, giving Glasgow a 4-0 lead at intermission.

In the final period, each team put up three goals. Hansen notched the first for Glasgow, followed up by a goal from Boland. JP Cornwell notched the last from Glasgow with an assist from Boland. The Dawgs put 30 pucks on target, while Potter faced 23 shots in his crease.

Each team was called for six infractions in the game. C. Cornwell served time in the first and second periods for body contact. JP Cornwell was called for body checking in the second. Hansen (interference) and Dulaney (hooking) also sat in the sin bin before intermission. JP Cornwell was back in the box in the third for interference.

Glasgow finished out their weekend by defeating Miles City again, this time with a 10-1 final score. Hansen kicked off the Dawgs domination in the first period, putting up the first goal of the game. Miles City would answer back a minute later, putting up their only goal before being shut down by Potter and an offensive onslaught from Glasgow. Barnett would find the back of the net also in the first for a 2-1 lead when the buzzer sounded.

Puck control and scoring opportunities led to the Dawgs adding four goals before the intermission. Hansen, Deegan Ross, Barnett and Hunter all converted on their attempts in the second period as the Dawgs' offense fired 14 shots at the Generals netminder. Potter saw only two attempts in his end.

The third period saw the Ice Dawgs finding the back of the net four times on 17 attempts, while holding the Generals to four attempts. Ross, Boland, JP Cornwell (assist Hansen) and Boland again lit the lamp for Glasgow. In net, Potter turned away seven of the eight shots he saw. At the opposite end of the ice, his teammates fired 44 total shots at the Miles City netminder.

Glasgow served time for six infractions, serving two penalties each period. In the first Barnett (tripping) and C. Cornwell (interference) served time in the box. Boland (body checking) and Collins (slashing) were sent to the sin bin in the second. The third period saw C. Cornwell (hooking) and Collins (tripping) take a seat.
