Lady Scotties Rack Up Two Wins

The Glasgow Lady Scotties beat the North Country Mavericks in front of a home crowd on Jan. 24. The final score was 51 to 33 in what was a solid performance for the Scotties. The next day they hit the road to take on Sidney, beating the Eagles, 57 to 39.

"We had a couple good games this last weekend," said Lady Scotties head coach Travis Nielsen. "We played really good defense, rebounded well and turnovers were down; [I] can't be any more proud of the girls for hustling and playing great defense."

Against the Mavs the Scotties took control of the game early on and refused to relinquish their point lead. Leaving the first quarter the Scotties had put up twice as many points leading 10 to five. Then in the second quarter their momentum faded slightly, although not by enough for the Mavs to capitalize on claiming the lead. In that quarter the Mavs outscored the Scotties with 11 points to their nine and ended the half 19 to 16.

In the second half the Scotties pulled away. In the third quarter the Scotties amassed 17 points while holding the Mavs to a mere five. They would head into the fourth quarter with a solid 15 point lead by ending the quarter with a score of 36 to 21. In the fourth quarter the Mavs kept pace with the Scotties but could not close the gap. In the end, the Lady Scotties put up 15 additional points compared to the Mavs' 12, which ended the game with the final score of 51 to 33.

Leading the team in points was Anika Peters with 14. She was followed by Taylor Pederson with 11, Keely Fossum with eight, Laura Ross with seven, Tyann Graham and Daley Aune with four, Davyn Myrick with two and Abrianna Nielsen with a single point.

The Scotties would repeat their performance against the Eagles by taking the lead early and holding onto it throughout the game. At the end of the first quarter the Scotties were up 11 to eight, a lead of only three points. By the end of the half that lead would grow to a total of 14 total points for a halftime score of 31 to 17. In the third quarter the Eagles would attempt to battle back and close that lead by three making it an 11-point game with a score of 41 to 30 with the Scotties up. In the fourth, however, the Scotties would pull away thanks, in part, to six points from freshman Daley Aune coming in off the bench, contributing to the Scotties total 16 points in the fourth. The Eagles would manage to put up nine points, and the final score would finish out at 57 to 39.

Keely Fossum would lead the Scotties in points putting up 14 for her team. She was followed closely by Anika Peters with 13 points, Laura Ross with eight, Taylor Pederson with six, Daley Aune with six, Tyann Graham with five, Abrianna Nielsen with four and Blaire Westby with two points.

The Lady Scotties will travel to Poplar on Jan. 30 and then host Glendive at home on Jan. 31.
