Shirley Mae Nelson

Shirley Mae (Prior) Nelson, 91, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, Mont.

Services will be held this summer at a family gathering in Glasgow.

She was born in Poplar, Mont., on Dec. 30, 1928, to Charles and Edith Prior. Shirley graduated from Poplar High School and married James Nelson on May 27, 1947. They had three daughters. Shirley and Jim farmed and ranched north of Brockton, Mont., for 42 years before retiring and moving to Glasgow. She loved cooking, needle work and was active in various organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nelson; granddaughter Kalli Thompson; and three sisters, Betty Scott, Molly Kapinos and Glora Sayers.

She is survived by Linda and Tom Rutschke and their daughter, Mica Rutschke, of Gilbert, Ariz.; Diane and Randy Dirkson, of Glasgow, and their two sons, Kevin Dirkson, of Bozeman, Mont., and Keith and Lindsay Dirkson (Quinten and Kaia), of Kalispell, Mont.; Mary and Kim Thompson, their daughter, Kacie Thompson (Trey) and son Kyle Thompson, of Bismarck, N.D.; one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Ostos, of Vacaville, Calif.; and one sister, Donna Alzheimer, of Choteau, Mont.
