GPD: DB's Burglarized, Three DUIs in the City

The Glasgow Police Department has charged a 55-year-old Glasgow man with felony burglary and theft after he was discovered leaving DB’s Bar and Casino in the late evening hours of Jan. 10. According to Sgt. Robert Weber with the GPD, two officers responded to an intrusion alarm at the establishment and once on site discovered the male, who was already on felony probation, intoxicated and in possession of over $600 in cash from the establishment.

Weber said that none of the bar’s contents had been consumed or stolen and that the male had been drinking alcohol before breaking into the bar. He described the man as “severely intoxicated” and unable to respond to the officers present. He also added that the establishment’s cash on hand had been secured in safes but that the cash he was able to steal had been set aside as prizes for cash games played at the bar. The prizes were waiting to be picked up by their winners.

He was charged with felony burglary, which is defined in Montana as entering an occupied building with the intent to commit a crime. He was also charged with misdemeanor theft since the total dollar value of the cash was below $1,500. If convicted he could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

On top of the burglary, the Glasgow Police Department also charged two Valley County residents with driving under the influence as well as resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. The two incidents occurred on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The first incident involved a 34-year-old man, who officers noticed was driving erratically and he pulled over to the side of the road without being signaled to do so by the police department. Weber said that when officers stopped to check on him they noticed that he was intoxicated and that he had an open container of alcohol in the car. During the arrest he began physically resisting the officers. As a result, he was charged with resisting arrest and first offense driving under the influence.

The second incident involved a 29 year old man, who was also driving erratically. When officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, he did not initially pull over and instead pulled into an alleyway. He then got out of the vehicle and ran from the officer. According to Glasgow Police Sergeant Tyler Edwards, the man made it about half a block before he was tackled and apprehended by police. He was charged with second offense driving under the influence as well as obstruction of justice, both are misdemeanors.

A third DUI in Glasgow was investigated by the Montana Highway Patrol on Saturday but the details were unavailable before press time. According to Weber, three is an unusually high number of DUI charges for a single weekend in Glasgow.
