PeeWees 3-1-0 in Havre

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs' PeeWee team traveled to Havre Dec. 6, 7 and 8, to take on host Ice Hawks and the Great Falls Americans. The team skated away with three wins and one tie over three days.

"Man, this team plays well together!" assistant coach Carin Barnett told the Courier.

Facing off against the Ice Hawks in their first game, the Ice Dawgs came back from a 1-0 deficit in the first period to win the game, 6-4. Glasgow came alive in the second period, outscoring Havre 4 to 2.

Brody Hansen scored first for the guests, assisted by Bode Barnett. Kimber Dulaney slid one between the pipes next, with an assist from John Cornwell. Hansen put the next two goals on the scoreboard, unassisted, for the Ice Dawgs.

The Dawgs started the third period with a one-goal lead. The Hawks tied it up midway through the period, but the Dawgs did not give up. Barnett scored a short-handed goal to put the Dogs up. Cornwell later added the insurance goal to give the Ice Dawgs the victory.

Jacob Potter faced 25 shots on goal, while the Dawgs put 34 shots on the Hawks goaltender. Barnett, Tavin Boland, Gryffen Collins, and Hansen spent time in the penalty box.

The next morning, the two teams took to the ice again, with Havre looking to even up the record. The Dawgs took an early lead in the tight game, holding on to win 9-8. Barnett kicked off a first-period scoring streak for Glasgow, notching the first two of four goals in the period. Hansen added a third, with Barnett getting the assist. Cornwell, with the assist from Hansen, gave the visitors a 4-2 lead when the horn sounded.

The second period saw each team score two goals and Glasgow holding on to a two-goal lead at intermission. Boland, with assists from Hansen and Cornwell. Cornwell scored his own goal with the assist from Barnett to close out the second for the Ice Dawgs.

Havre battled back in the third, scoring four goals to Glasgow's three, but the Dawgs took the one-goal win. Dulaney found the back of the net first for Glasgow, with an assist from Hansen. Collins and Hansen assisted Boland in lighting up the lamp, and Hansen rounded out the period with an assist from Barnett.

Potter faced 48 shots in the game, while Glasgow logged 30 shots on goal. Hansen and Cornwell served time in the box for slashing and tripping, respectively.

That afternoon, Glasgow took on the Americans of Great Falls, earning an impressive 8-3 win. Hansen kicked off the scoring streak in the first period with assists from Barnett and Cornwell. Potter turned away all seven shots the Americans threw at him.

Hansen led off the second period scoring with Barnett and Cornwell credited with the assists. Collins logged the second goal of the period with an assist from Hansen. Cornwell found got one between the posts with help from Barnett and Hansen, giving the Dawgs a 4-2 lead at the intermission.

The third period was all Glasgow as they racked up four goals to one from Great Falls, winning the game 8-3. Barnett got the puck past the posts first, and Cornwell followed him with an assist from Hansen. Collins logged goal number seven for the Ice Dawgs with help from Barnett, and Hansen closed out the scoring.

Potter faced 24 shots between the goal posts for Glasgow, while the Dawgs put 20 on the Americans' netminder. Cornwell spent time in the sin bin for elbowing.

The final game of the weekend ended in a 6-6 tie between the Ice Dawgs and the Americans. The first period ended in a 2-2 score, with goals for Glasgow from Dulaney and Hansen. Great Falls logged three goals in the second, leaving Glasgow down 5 to 4 at intermission. But Deegan Ross and Boland each registered assists as Hansen added two to score a natural hat trick.

Cornwell tied it up at five a piece with 9:15 left in the game. A few moments later, Great Falls regained the lead, 6-5. With just 23 seconds left to play, Barnett, with help from Boland, again tied the game, 6-6, which is where the scoreboard would stay.

Potter faced 25 shots, and Glasgow put 24 shots up against the Great Falls netminder. The Dawgs logged a clean game, serving no penalties in three periods of play.

The PeeWees will be on the ice again this Saturday, Dec. 21, against the Miles City Generals, times TBA.
