Grapplers Fight Hard Battle at Eagle Invite

The Glasgow Scottie Wrestlers made their way to the Sidney Eagle Invitational this past weekend to test their skills on the mat against some of the finest grapplers from Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The Scotties brought their all, finishing in the top half of teams at 11th out of 25 total teams. The Scotties followed up behind the likes of Sidney, Bozeman, Minot, Rapid City and a couple of Billings teams collecting a total of 88 points.

"Obviously it's a tough competition," said Scottie Head Coach Jory Casterline discussing the teams opening meet and his reflections on the remainder of the season. "So, as far as using it as a measuring stick, it's tough."

Casterline did not seem concerned about the performance and its implications for the year to come. He commented that the team would be on the mats this week getting ready for the Scottie Invitational this upcoming weekend. He planned to make some improvements and focus in on some lessons learned from the previous meet and was confident the wrestlers would be up to the challenge.

"We wrestled tough," said Casterline, "but we found we have a lot of things to improve on."

On the season as a whole, the coach is optimistic that they will have a strong performance at state in February. The Scotties are returning a number of state placers from the 2018-2019 season to include two state champions (Colton Fast and Dylan Nieskens). Also returning are two state bronze medalists in Kaden Zimmerman and Mason Phipps. The Scottie coach said the team has a lot of untapped potential and he is confident in the crew's ability to adapt.

He added, that he feels the team does have one area they do not need to improve on so far this year – their attitude.

"Our team chemistry right now is the best I've been around," said Casterline. "This is the best group of kids I've been around in a long time." He added that the good nature, positive attitude and no negativity builds on the teams potential going forward in the season. "So that's something I can build off of. I want guys who are excited to wrestle and work hard to get to the next level."

The Scottie Invitational will start Dec. 13 and go until Dec. 14 in the Glasgow High School Gymnasium.
