Peewee Hockey Kicks Off Season

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs Peewee team traveled to Sidney on Nov. 16 and 17 to lace up their skates for their first games of the season. The Dawgs had two games on Saturday and one on Sunday, starting off their season 1-2.

Glasgow first took the ice against Radville, but were outmatched 7-0. Mason Hunter racked up two penalties for tripping, spending time in the sin bin two times in the second period. The Dawgs lost a couple of players before even putting blade to ice as Charlie Cornwell was a scratch to start the season, though coaches are hopeful he’ll return later in the year. Tavin Boland sat out the first two games of the weekend sick, but did return for the third. Dillon Hughes and Hunter were brought up from the Bantams, under North Dakota rules, but bad luck struck the Dawgs again, as Hughes left with a knee injury after the first game.

Later in the day, the Dawgs took on Crosby, faring much better after three periods of practice against Radville. Glasgow took an early 4-2 in the first period on goals from Brody Hansen, Bode Barnett, Kimber Dulaney, and Deegan Ross. Hansen added two more in the second, but so did Radville, and the score was 6-4 going into the intermission. Radville notched only a single goal in the third. Glasgow logged three more, from Hansen, Dulaney, and Barnett, giving the Dawgs a 9-5 victory. The Dawgs managed to avoid the penalty box for the entire game.

On Sunday, the Peewee Dawgs faced off against the second Crosby team, losing 7-4. John Cornwell, Hansen, Barnett and Ross logged goals for the Dawgs, but Crosby proved the better scoring team. Even though the kids in red and white didn’t leave Sidney with a winning record, coaches are proud. “The kids really gave it their all,” said coach Carin Barnett.
