Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Dear Editor,
Congratulations on another successful year in covering the news and activities of my hometown through The Glasgow Courier! I have been a faithful reader of the Courier for decades. My father, Ivy Leonard Knight, was a faithful employee of the Courier for about six decades!
My father and mother were known as the "world's fussiest proofreaders." In their later years, they continued to do some of the proofing for the weekly Courier. I have inherited that "proofing gene." It was a challenge to search for EGG through this particular Courier. I congratulate the "Egg Writer," Gwendolyne Honrud, for her unobtrusive way of including the word in the articles.
When I receive each week's newspaper, I head first to the "Yesterday's Memories" section. When I studied the old black-and-white photo of the snow-covered automobile, with the caption including the question: "Can you spot the egg?" - I found that question peculiar because there didn't seem to be an egg anywhere in the snow! Later, I understood! Of course, the word EGG under that snowy picture was the first one that I circled. I smiled again and again as I found Gwendolyne's EGG in descriptions like "robin's egg" to describe the blue sky, or "egg shell colored floor." Very clever!
I hope my submission reaches the Courier on a timely basis. I must rely on our postal service to do their part for me.
Thank you for offering the scavenger hunt for your readers.
Sincerely,
Laura Haefer
Billings, Mont.
Editor's Note: Honrud appreciates the kind words from Haefer regarding the placement of the word "egg" during the Courier's second annual scavenger hunt. "I can't take all the credit in where the word was placed. It truly was a team effort in placing the word throughout the paper," stated Honrud.
