The North Country Mavericks entered the 1-C District Volleyball Tournament in Plentywood as the seventh seed and after hard work and perseverance, they brought home the third place bragging rights and hardware.
The Mavericks first played number 10 Bainville, whom they defeated 25-19, 25-11, 25-17. They then defeated number two Fairview, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20. The third game of the tournament saw them defeated by number three MonDak, 25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 15-11, however that didn't stop the Mavs as they then went on to beat number four Scobey, 25-14, 17-25, 24-26, 26-24, 15-11. They then again played number two Fairview and won in four matches, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16, 14-25, 15-13 which saw them have to play MonDak again, where they lost in four matches, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.
Individual stats for the tournament include Danika Soper who had 19 aces, 93 digs, 86 assists, 22 kills, and 1 block; Elise Strommen having seven aces and 127 digs; Jaydyn Erickson having 12 aces, 22 digs, one assist, 55 kills, and eight blocks; Jaycee Erickson having nine aces, 62 digs 111 assists, 15 kills, and three blocks; Kia Wasson having nine aces, 130 digs, seven assists, 72 kills, and one block; Kaitlyn McColly having 13 aces, 119 digs, one assist, 71 kills, and seven blocks and Mattea McColly having 11 digs, 27 kills, and 10 blocks.
The Mavericks will play in the Eastern C Divisional Volleyball Tournament Nov. 7 through 9 at Sidney High School. They will first play Ekalaka 30 minutes after the first match ends, which is expected to start at 10 a.m.
