End Season Undefeated in 2B Play
The Lady Scotties wrapped up their regular season on the road playing against Malta on Oct. 24 and against Wolf Point on Oct 26.
The Scotties defeated the M-ettes in three games, 25-9, 25-19, 25-17. This was the second time the girls have played against the M-ettes after first encountering them at the beginning of the season. "We hadn't seen Malta since the first week of the regular season and we were looking forward to it for sure," coach Somer Hoerster tells the Courier. "We had some incredible defensive hustle plays that made it very fun to watch."
Hoerster certainly saw Malta get caught off guard during the matches. "There were a few times they thought the ball was down and we had it up and over and then won the point," explained Hoerster. "That's the cool thing about my team is they have capability of making plays like that and so when you are on the other side of the net from us, things can get pretty frustrating because you think you scored a point and then you didn't," Hoerster stated during the Oct. 24 KLTZ Saturday Morning Sports Show.
Keeping up that fire and motivation, the Scotties traveled to Wolf Point where they were expecting to see a team that has grown and changed since the teams first met earlier this season. "Everyone has gotten better as the year progresses. You can't ever assume anything with anyone you play and we just have to go out strong and play our game," Hoerster tells the Courier.
After three matches, it was evident the Lady Scotties stayed in control and handled the ball better compared to the Wolves, as the Scotties gained another win in three matches, 25-17, 25-18, 25-8.
"We served very well overall in this match and did a great job of coming from behind in the first game to take the lead and then never let up after that," explained Hoerster.
The Lady Scotties finished 2B regular season play undefeated with an 8 and 0 record and an 11 and 1 record overall, going into the District 2B Tournament as the first seed.
To get mentally and physically prepared for tournament play, Hoerster will continue to keep practices intense. "I feel like now we have this additional energy that comes at tournament time and the girls are okay with a little longer practices as we preapre for the weeks to come," stated Hoerster.
The District 2B Tournament will be held Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 at Glasgow High School. The Scotties is scheduled to play the winner of the 10 a.m. Malta/Poplar match at 1 p.m. on Friday. If the Scotties win the match, they will play the winner of the 11:30 a.m. Wolf Point/Harlem match at 4:30 p.m. If the Scotties lose the match, they will play at 6 p.m. See above for the full bracket.
