Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Northeastern Arts Network is proud to present the second performance in their 2019-20 Big Sky Series. Dennis Stoughmatt et L’Esprit Creole will take the stage in the Glasgow High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.
The award-winning musician, speaker and educator comes to Montana from his home along the Mississippi River near St. Louis, Mo., and brings a medley of music, language, stories and culture from the French Midwest Creole culture. Stoughmatt’s website says he is originally from southeastern Illinois and “was taught to play fiddle by Missouri Crole fiddlers Roy Boyer and Charlie Pashia in the tradition of their fathers.”
The website further touts, “Dennis Stoughmatt et L’Esprit Creole are passionate ambassadors of Creole music and traditions, expanding interest and excitement in a region that has been ignored by the history books.” Stoughmatt is both a Missouri Humanities Speaker and Illinois Humanities Speaker, as well as an inducted member of the National Oldtime Fiddlers Hall of Fame. The music bridging the gap between the distinct styles of Canadian and Louisiana Creole music is sure to be a crowd pleaser with its blend of traditional and contemporary sounds.
Tickets for the concert -- $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for students -- will be available at the door.
The Big Sky Series is made possible in part by the Montana Performing Arts Consortium Presenter Development Program which is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Montana Arts Council and a legislative grant from Montana’s Cultural Trust.
