Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Dear Editor,
I never expected to be amongst those who write the rah-rah letters to the editor extolling the benefits of living where there are such caring people as we have here in the Middle of Nowhere, but here I am.
Last week, after it snowed and we knew we couldn't attempt any farm work, we went to Billings just to get away. On our return Tuesday afternoon, we suffered a flat tire (it was a run flat, so no spare should have been required). We were about 40 miles south of Glasgow, past Fort Peck. We were able to contact AAA for a tow, but had to wait quite a while for the wrecker.
A woman we don't know stopped to make sure we were okay, as did several others. She was on her way in to meet a school bus and collect her child. Some time later (40 minutes?) she again stopped, on her way back. She sent her daughter, wearing a Nashua Porcupines shirt, to us with a bag containing a couple bottles of water and a bag of chips.
She'd worried about us stranded on the side of the road and went out of her way to purchase comforting items for us. We didn't need the water, having a cooler with a couple bottles of water in the back seat, nor did we need the chips. In fact, we offered them Krispie Kreme donuts (Dennis', not mine!). The girl declined, saying she'd just had ice cream.
It's so nice to live in an area where total strangers care enough for their fellow citizens that they go the extra mile to offer comfort and help. I hope our good Samaritan sees this and knows how much we appreciated her efforts on our behalf.
Sincerely,
Mary Honrud
Opheim, Mont.
