The FMDH Foundation recently gifted Glasgow High School a new Game Ready Machine, a device that helps student athletes with joint injuries, such as those that affect their ankle, knee or shoulder, as well as larger muscles, like hamstrings.
RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) has long been used to treat acute and chronic injury. Game Ready offers adjustable cold therapy and intermittent compression in one easy-to-use system, making it easy to apply the two most difficult-to-manage aspects of the RICE regimen. The Game Ready Machine cuts recovery time of a grade 1 or 2 sprain by two-thirds of the time, which ultimately means less time spent on doctor visits and reduces healthcare costs for parents. The FMDH Foundation had previously purchased one in 2010 for Glasgow Schools and in 2012 for Hinsdale Schools.
"A big thank you to the FMDH Foundation for this gift to help our students recover quicker," stated Glasgow Athletic Director Brenner Flaten. The Game Ready Machine is easy to use. All the athlete needs to do is simply fill the unit with ice, wrap on one of the dual-action wraps to the injured area, and plug the device in. Immediately the athlete will feel the compressions and cold. Up to two students at a time can use the device and with the battery pack, it can be taken to away games and used on the bus ride home if necessary. The ability to bring it on the go is beneficial because the sooner it's used on injuries the better the recovery time will be.
