Glasgow's Middle School cross country team opened what they hope to be an eight-race season with a good showing against other Hi-Line and North Dakota schools Aug. 30 in Wolf Point.
Team-wise, the Scottie girls took second to a strong Poplar squad. The Glasgow boys finished in fifth place as a team.
Individually, Glasgow's girls put all five scorers in the top 20. They were paced by seventh grader Abigail Kulczyk, who took fifth place overall with a time of 11:21. Eighth graders Emily See and Eve Stone took sixth and 11th places, respectively, and sixth grader Kimber Dulaney finished in 19th place. Rounding out the scorers, Piper Johnson took 20th place in the 102-runner field.
Other Glasgow girls in the race included: Addison Jones (27th place), Kheyerah Bilger (34th), Josie Kemp (40th), Allie Palm (47th), JoJo Chappell (48th), Kaylly Turner (57th), Riley Evenson-Glasoe (61st), Harlyn Brandt (65th), Triniti Anderson (82nd), and Allison Bailey (84th).
Glasgow tallied 45 team points, compared with 37 for Poplar. Sidney took third with 72 points, and Wolf Point fourth with 125. Frazer, Frontier School, and Plentywood also fielded full teams.
The Scottie boys were led by eighth grader Eli Feezell, who took second overall in the 86-runner field with a time of 10:09 for the 2500-meter race. The only other Scottie in the top 20 was Tavin Boland, running in his first race. The sixth grader finished in 10:39 for eighth place overall. Other Scottie scorers included Austin Miller (48th place), Ted See (52nd) and Aaron Miller (53rd). Rounding out the squad were Owen Thompson (54th), Dustyn Erb (78th), and Noah Leckie (81st).
The boys finished in fifth place overall with 124 team points. Poplar boys won the Wolf Point Invitational with 61 team points, followed by Sidney with 63, Plentywood with 104, and Trenton (North Dakota), with 120.
Glasgow is home Sept. 6, racing at Sullivan Park against other Hi-Line middle schools. The races start at 4:30 p.m., and the Glasgow High School harriers will serve as officials at the meet.
The GMS squad runs at Glendive on Sept. 12, Poplar on Sept. 21, Frazer on Sept. 26, at our home meet in Kiwanis Park on Sept. 28, at Miles City on Oct. 5, at Plentywood on Oct. 12, and finally at Culbertson on Oct. 19.
