Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Glasgow Police Department arrested Robert Arthur Wing Jr. on Glasgow's south side the evening of July 26. The arrest came after law enforcement searched his residence in relation to a "conditions of release" check. The search revealed two loaded weapons and drug-related paraphernalia triggering another criminal investigation against Wing.
According to Sgt. Robert Weber with the Glasgow Police Department, the agency received information that Wing had violated court ordered conditions of pre-trial release. Wing was on release pending a trial for allegedly possessing dangerous drugs – namely methamphetamine. Information obtained by the GPD misdemeanor probation office indicated he had allegedly violated those conditions and the agency, along with assistance from the Valley County Sheriff's Office, searched the house. During the search they located a loaded hand gun and a sawed-off shotgun.
Since Wing was already a convicted felon, he was not allowed to possess any firearms under federal law, and since possessing a shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18 inches is a violation of state law, the department stopped the search, obtained a search warrant and further investigated the house.
Following the approval of the search warrant GPD, along with the VCSO, a Tri-Agency Drug Task Force Agent and a K9 unit with the Montana Highway Patrol, conducted a more in-depth search of the property. The search revealed drug paraphernalia and resulted in the arrest and a new investigation against Wing. Weber clarified that the case is still being investigated and no new charges have been filed in relation to the search. Wing is currently being held at the Valley County Detention Center for possessing the sawed-off shotgun and drug paraphernalia.
According to Weber, the possession of the handgun will be refereed to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives since it violates federal law. All other criminal matters will be investigated by the department.
