Women's Walleye Tourney Hauls in 32.5 Inch 'Eye'

The Glasgow-Fort Peck Chapter of Montana Walleye's Unlimited hosted their 19th Annual Women's Fishing Tournament this past weekend July 19 and 20 at Fort Peck Reservoir. In total 53 teams came out to test their angler skills on the waters of Fort Peck and the results were significant.

The largest walleye netted came in at over 32.5 inches which beat out not only every other fish in the tourney, but also rivaled the largest fish netted at the Montana Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament held the weekend prior. That tournament's largest fish came in at 32.75 inches.

At the end of the day, 49 teams put points on the board with totals ranging from the top slot at 35.18 lbs – owned by Sheryl Johnson and Gil Mueller – down to a tie for 47th place with 1.03 lbs. Six teams netted over 20 lbs of fish but only the winning team amassed a score over 30 lbs. Twenty-seven teams total topped double digits bringing in over 10 lbs of fish each.

The collective total of fish weighed at the tournament was over 536 lbs. The big-fish honors went to Jill Sanders and Darci Ellefson with the 32.5 inch Walley and the "Wee-Walleye" prize went to Emily Young and Bobi Sugg.

According to Jill Meiers with the Glasgow-Fort Peck Chapter of Walleye's Unlimited, the event went remarkably well. "It was a great day of fishing with almost all teams making it on the scoreboard," said Meiers, who also wanted to thank the Wolf Point Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited for their efforts with the tournament.
