Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Rural communities are the backbone of America, and for the past 10 years, the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program has partnered with local farmers to provide grants to local nonprofits. In an effort to have farmers partner with their local community and help make a positive impact in their farm communities, the program, sponsored by the Bayer Fund, provides the opportunity for a farmer to enter to win $2,500 based on what they are doing in the field and donate the funds to a charity of their choice.
This year’s recipient was Fort Peck farmer Marvin Tarum and he selected the FMDH Foundation to be the recipient of the funds. This is not the first time Tarum has chosen the FMDH Foundation to be the recipient, as two previous times he has won the award, he has also chosen the Foundation.
Tarum and his family’s hard work and dedication to the betterment of our community is very much appreciated. In 2018, the Foundation gave out $24,000 in medical scholarships and $45,000 to FMDH, Valley County and the county’s ambulance service. The funds donated by Tarum and his family will help to continue improve medical necessities in the community as well as help fund students’ medical schooling so they can come back to the area and work in rural healthcare.
The America’s Farmers Grow Communities Program has awarded $33 million to over 8,000 nonprofits in rural America. “A better life is Bayer’s goal. Farmers are invested in their communities, they root for their neighbors and they know when and where there is a need,” stated Vice President Corporate Engagement Bayer Al Mitchell. “Farmers are one of America’s best resources, which is why Grow Communities partner with them to direct donations to the organizations they are passionate about and that make a positive impact and a better life in communities.”
